Nexus 4 vs Nexus 5

Android stock experience is developed regardless whether a Nexus device exists. Some of those other costs is probably absorb by LG. It is a unique setup indeed. I would not be surprised if through Motorola future generations of the Nexus phone is developed as Google can 100 percent control the costs and profit in that sort of scenario.

Nexus One pricing, Nexus S pricing, Galaxy Nexus pricing.. The Nexus 4 pricing is drastically different.

But that's fine. I'm sticking to my story.

Can someone please post any links to evidence of a Nexus "5"? I'm looking for FCC docs, or Bluetooth SIG docs, or a Google announcement.

I'll take case leaks or part leaks as well.

I haven't seen anything for the Nexus 5 yet. I think there were FCC documents for an upcoming Motorola phone, which is presumably the Motorola X phone.

Well, LG has said that they were not working on the next Nexus (but they said they wouldnt be against it if asked) and there hasnt been any leak of who is given the task of the next Nexus... so no one knows who's been given the chance to make the next Nexus phone. it could be Moto... but like someone else said, if they did get picked, i think they'll put the Nexus name on it like the last. It's not the upcoming moto x... seems to be Moto's new phone line that they will be going global with.

It could be a variant e.g how the nexus 4 is of the optimus g but not the same

i dont think Google was/is subsidizing the Nexus 4... but probably worked out a deal with LG and Google is pretty much selling it at cost?

LG got great exposure with the Nexus 4 for cheaper than they could get by advertising in a time where they need to get more exposure against the likes of Samsung and they work out the deal with Google in that they get a premium spec phone minus LTE and camera to not cannibalize LG's G phone and everyone is happy. They probably thought that they would just sell a few million phones for the year at most right? I don't think the two really thought the N4 was going to be such a hit as you can see how they handled supply.

I dont believe they are. We have seen the cost of parts on these phones. Even at 300 dollars there is probably at first release a 33 percent profit margin. Assuming the cost to make the phone at the time was around 200 dollars. The Galaxy S4 is around 210 dollars to make.

We are just use to other phone manufacturers making with high levels of markup. The computer industry started out like that also and now when HP sells a pc, they are lucky to make 60 dollars on a 500 dollar model.

I firmly believe Google is eating some sort of cost on the Nexus 4.

It's certainly possible. However, another possibility is that cell phone companies have been gouging everyone for years. So perhaps Google is only trying to provide a phone at a fair price (instead of an inflated price). Still, that does not necessarily mean that Google is losing money on each Nexus 4 sale.

Personally, I'd like to agree with you and think Google is footing part of the bill for everyone because it makes them seem like a nicer company.

They also all happened to be the device the Nexus 4 is based on, more or less, bringing us right back around to my original point that the Nexus 4 was not released with midrange specifications.
