Nexus 4 will not wake up after sleep.

Sorry to say, it is not related to the Slide to Unlock option. I had 1 occurrence when on Slide to Unlock, but yesterday evening and today, i had the problem while security is on 'Pattern'.
Really annoying problem this. I missed my alarms this morning and was almost late for work. Shook awake with a headache, nonetheless...

I called my supplier, i'm getting a replacement device. Hope this solves the problem.

I use a PIN to unlock and I sometimes have the problem. Fortunately, it's rare. I would guess maybe once every two months. I can't see any pattern in when it happens or not.

Although there is a long discussion of this issue at [Q] Nexus 4 randomly turning off, intermittently not being able to restart - xda-developers, there does not seem to be a permanent fix as yet. However, the Safe Charge app will prevent your phone from entering deep sleep when the phone is charging. If you use the alarm function on your phone and plug the phone into the charger overnight, Safe Charge will keep your phone from entering deep sleep mode and prevent a "sleep of death" episode. Safe Charge also has a settings option for manual mode that prevents the phone from entering deep sleep and thus prevent SOD at any time; however, this using this setting will increase your battery drain somewhat.

Google will RMA the Nexus 4 for this issue if you purchased your phone through the Play Store, but there are reports of users having the same issue on their replacement phone as well.

This phenomena occurred for me due to a clock app once before. I woke up before my alarm went off and made sure the phone was functioning. I waited it out, still checking the phone. Then my alarm failed to go off, and the screen wouldn't turn on. What I did then was figure out which apps have been running during that time.

Once you know which apps have been running, you can isolate which ones are causing the problems and uninstall/disable them. The first once causing me problems was an alarm app. After uninstalling it, I had no problems. This bug is software related, so don't bother getting a replacement.

Just had my Nexus 4 not wake up again, the 10th time in less than a week. Have had all previous Nexus phones but never had this problem.

The only app I could tell was running when the sleep of death happened was Whatsapp.

Considering how widespread this app is, I won't be surprised that it's the culprit, but I can't uninstall the app either, simply because I need it all the time.
