Nexus 4 won't update to 4.2.2

So I just bought a refurbished Nexus 4. It's my first android phone so everything is a bit new to me. For whatever reason my phone seems to be stuck at 4.2 and says it's up to date. My wife got a Nexus at the same time and hers says that it's at 4.2.2. I checked and the phone isn't rooted. Is it possible that someone rooted it at some point and it doesn't have stock android on it anymore or something so it won't update? Not sure what the right questions are in this case. Thanks!
