Nexus 5 and 4.4 stealing iPad air thunder

I don't why you keep on bring up GS3 GS4 unless you think that GS3 and GS4 responsible for 80% android market share.
They are probably responsible for the bulk of it, yeah. The sales figures I quoted make that clear.

As great as the sales are of the GS3 and GS4 are they are only a small percentage of the android market.
According to who? How did you determine that?

Google it if you want. "The GS3 and GS4 alone were the best selling Android phones by a wide margin" Compare to who or what? They are certainly not beating iPhone sales.
They were according to that link. And this one:

Samsung Galaxy S3 is world's best selling smartphone
Samsung Galaxy S3 is world's best selling smartphone | News | TechRadar

And lets not forget that Android includes tablets. How many millions of Kindle fires, $50 Chinese tablets are sold worldwide.
We were discussing smartphones, but we can talk tablets if you want as well. Android has passed Apple up there too.

Walk into Walmart and there is a whole line of Android prepaid phones for $40.
Most people who buy Android are not buying them apparently. There are no pre-paid phones appearing in the top selling Android list.

My own experience is similar...of the people I know who own Android phones (and I know a lot) very few own cheap phones. Most of them own phones that were once flagship devices or still are.

Like I said Android have a large market share but only because they are free.
I know. You are wrong. I demonstrated why. So far I have not seen any links from you supporting your claim.

It is a popular myth that the bulk of Android phones are cheap phones. I simply have seen no actual evidence of this that is not anecdotal.

Yeah that is true regarding cheap android devices accounting for the majority of sales.
Everyone crys "overpriced" for all of Apple's product releases and yet the iPad still manages to outsell the $250 nexus 7 and all the other cheap android tablets that are said to be a good value.
Apple has also been bleeding marketshare to Android for years now. Even their tablet dominance is slipping.

I grabbed an iPad air too and agree, it is a great iPad. Mine is mostly for my wife and kid as it kind of drives the home entertainment system set up we have (seriously Amazon... Give us an android video app!). I have to say however, the iPad is fabulous hardware but iOS is no where near as good as Android in my opinion ( I have used both since the beginning). The one thing that the iOapplesphere has done better than anyone else is integrate everything together. Of course you can make things work together on Android, but iOS allows my six year old daughter to just figure it out and then teach my wife.

I can't wait for the N5 to show up so I can stop messing with the iPad though!

That's funny. Tell us how much iOS costs. I'd like to know. Oh wait! It has no price since no other manufacturers are allowed to get it. So your reasoning is incorrect. Apple is a hardware company that has to turn a profit. We all know that is not what Google is. That's why Android has 80% market share. It's open and iOS is closed.

Android is 80% marketshare because people are buying Android products instead of Apple products. Apple used to be far ahead of Android. Now it is not. Android has always had cheaper options than Apple. So what changed? You tell me.

At the very least, it means that they do not think Apple products are worth the price Apple is charging.

While android manufacturers are striving to make cheaper devices, Apple is standing there ground with their priceing scheme. Apple wants to remain a premium brand, they don't want to sell "cheap" products to gain market share like most other brands.

Mercedes doesn't sell the most cars in the world, I believe Toyota does but ask anyone and you already know which car they will choose.

I'm not saying Apple is the Mercedes of smartphones but they are simply isolating there focus onto the high end smartphone/market.

Uh huh. What is the iPhone 5c?

It does not appear to be helping them. Android continues to swallow their marketshare.

Apple wants to remain a premium brand
So what is the point of the 5C then?

They had major problems with the antennea and the PR disaster of Apple Maps. They may have been seen as premium once, but I don't think they own that anymore.

Mercedes doesn't sell the most cars in the world, I believe Toyota does but ask anyone and you already know which car they will choose.
So more sales = success. And fewer sales = success. Ok. Nice catch 22.

The reason your analogy does not hold is because Android is selling products for the same price and they are still gaining marketshare. The GS3 and GS4 were not cheap android phones...they were flagship devices. People who bought those could have bought Apple products for the same price, yet chose not to.

I'm not saying Apple is the Mercedes of smartphones but they are simply isolating there focus onto the high end smartphone/market.
They have been doing that all along. Why are they losing marketshare? What changed? Cheap Android phones are not new.

Apple's reputation for owning the high end has been slipping for a while.

My old HTC Rezound beat it. As did flagship Moto and Samsung products.

I don't know how you figure they own 80% of market with those 2 models.

People that live in the USA thinks that galaxy s3 or s4 is the only phone that people buy. People buy those phones because in the US these phones are subsidized. Go to India, China, and etc where phone aren't subsidized you will find most buy Galaxy Y duos, Galaxy M, Sony L, Lumia 520s, Huawei, and other no name android devices. Not too mention the millions of $30 android phones floating around.

I originally replied to the comment that Android owes 80% of market so of course we are talking about tablet too. Unless you think Android is only on phones??

And yes ios started to lose their marketshare in tablet quickly when......
The Chinese started producing the $100 tablets.
Amazon started to produce the kindle fire tablet at cost $200
Google nexus 7 $200
Galaxy tab 2 $170

Apple iPad are high priced but consistently sold out when newly released. Can you say that of any android tablets that is not sold at cost.

With actual sales numbers. Your source does not disprove anything I have said. I use the GS3 and GS4 as examples because they are high end phones...but they are not the only ones. The Moto X, Razr, HTC One, HTC One X...my HTC Rezound, the LG Spectrum, the Optimus G, the Sony Xperia series. These were all high end phones sold at the same price as the iPhones when they came out. There are many flagship Android devices. It is a myth that Android's success is because of cheap phones. The best selling phones on Android are not cheap.

People that live in the USA thinks that galaxy s3 or s4 is the only phone that people buy. People buy those phones because in the US these phones are subsidized.
So what? People buy iPhones for the exact same reason. How many people in the US buy iPhones off contract?

Go to India, China, and etc where phone aren't subsidized you will find most buy Galaxy Y duos, Galaxy M, Sony L, Lumia 520s, Huawei, and other no name android devices.
So what? High end Android phones in those countries match or exceed iPhone sales as well. If you compare by price, you will see that Android matches or exceeds iPhones in the same price ranges.

I originally replied to the comment that Android owes 80% of market so of course we are talking about tablet too. Unless you think Android is only on phones??
Android owns 80% of the SMARTPHONE market alone. It owns most of the tablet market as well, but not 80% yet. Tablets and smartphones are not the same thing.

Apple iPad are high priced but consistently sold out when newly released. Can you say that of any android tablets that is not sold at cost.
Even when they are not sold out, people are buying Android phones instead, and for the same prices or even higher. That should not be happening if Android's appeal is only it's cost.

You ask for a number, I gave you one. The chart does show the other manufacturers smartphone numbers too, does it not.
Lol.
Now you making things up left and right to cover yourself.

The iPhone 5C is far from a budget oriented device, the thing costs $600. While budget oriented android devices can be had for $200.

You say my analogy doesn't work but you don't realize that Toyota sells products in the same price range as Mercedes, Lexus is there premium brand but they are still considered inferior to Mercedes.

If you think of Toyota as Samsung and the Galaxy Ace, Duos and other devices as the regular Toyota Corolla's that sell millions then the Lexus line up is akin to the Galaxy S/ Note lineup of devices.

Apple does not have a budget device(neither does Mercedes), the iPhone 5C is not a budget device but instead a device designed for the people who want to differentiate themselves from the sea of black/white iPhones.

Poor analogy. If you'd picked Audi, I would have agreed. Toyota are now far better engineered and manufactured than Mercedes.

Not sure why you guys are comparing market share of iOS vs Android. It's not quite an apples to apples comparison. For one thing, Apple is the only iOS device manufacturer. Android has many OEMs. But when you look at the profit share, out of the major Android OEMs, other than Samsung, who's really making any money?

Good Joke, Toyota has one thing going for them and that is reliability. Mercedes may not be the most reliable but from a fit and finish stand point they are leaps and bounds better than any Lexus. The driving experience is also way better.

Yep, that fit and finish is awesome when you're sitting on the side of the road in rush hour traffic. Luckily, either an iPhone or Android device can make the call to roadside assistance.

Have you had experience with that or are you just blatantly repeating what the media says? The Audi my family owns has never left us stranded on the side of the road, Has it been problem free? No but the issues that occured were very minor and caused by cheap rubber/plastic parts wearing out and triggering the CEL.

I didn't realize the media was reporting anything. I experienced this first hand. I used to carpool with a woman who owned a Mercedes SUV and it just shut down without warning on the busiest toll road at rush hour. No signs of life whatsoever. Since I was the only guy in the vehicle, I had the pleasure of pushing that thing off to the shoulder and then we sat in a nearby furniture store until her husband could give us a lift home. Mercedes service had the SUV for three weeks and couldn't figure out the problem. She finally had to bring it to an independent shop that specialized in German cars and pay out of pocket to get it repaired. I don't know the model but she is a well paid software developer so I'm sure it wasn't the econo version. She sold it a couple of months later.

Yeah, the German car manufacturers have produced some lemons over the years but, that can be said about pretty much all the manufacturers, Toyota brake pedal issue leading to a multi-million dollar recall, Chrysler just did poorly in general and even some Hondas with software glitches that led to limp modes.

The SUV you are talking about is most likely the 1st Gen ML class, that thing was what ruined Mercedes reputation for reliability the most out of any of the cars they produced.

I'll throw mine in here; 10 year old A4 Avant, 150k, never failed, has required less than about ?1500 in replacement parts and servicing over the 10 years.

You want to see the numbers of mark 1 A4s still on the road, with much higher miles.

Mercedes (and BMW s) aren't all they used to be.

Yeah the audi my family owns is a 2003 Audi A4 1.8t and it has been good thus far besides a couple minor niggles.
