Nexus 5 icons missing

when I open a folder on my desktop none of the desktop show up if I click inside that folder the program is still there but the icon is missing this happens to all my folders

Welcome to Android Central! Sorry, but can you clarify that? So you created some folders on the homescreen, but if you open one, you don't see any of the app shortcut icons there? What happens if you remove that folder, then create it again, and try to move those same app shortcuts into the folder?
