Nexus 5 keeps randomly shutting off

I've had my Nexus 5 since it came out in 2013. Earlier this year I started having an issue in which the phone would just randomly shut off. I would power it back on and it would still have a lot of charge left.

At first, it was sporadic, but then it was gradually doing it more and more frequently (many, many times per day) until it was virtually unusable unless plugged it.

I ordered a new battery and replaced the old one and then the phone worked just fine again... up until a few weeks ago when it began doing it again, and it has been gradually doing it more and more frequently just like last time.

I've only had the new battery for about four months.

Is there a way to fix this or do I actually need to go buy a new phone?

Welcome to Android Central! It could be a faulty Power button. Take it to a repair shop and have them look at it.

I sent mine back to LG for refurbishment and they told me it was a battery issue which was causing it to overheat. $149 for refurbishment back to me.

i'm having the same issue. Have u noticed if the turning off occurs just after you press the power/unlock button? And what android version are you using? I'm using 6.
In my case, it always happen just after try to unlock the phone. The screen turns on asking to turn off, even without a long press. Then, refusing the turning off request, few seconds after it just turn off, with no reason.

I already performed a hard reset in recovery mode and also flashed the android 6 from scratch, using the PC.

As were said before, maybe it's a power button issue.

In your case, it might very well be a faulty power button. My phone just shuts off completely randomly (for example, midway through typing a text message). I have Android 5.1, but I doubt that matters.

Mine shuts off as well even if I'm just reading a text or surfing the web...and my guarantee ran out 1st November...might just reset it and see what happens...if it still does it I'll be e-mailing LG...

Mine is doing it too,but after I replace the power button. The power button went bad and I had it replace and from there is shutting down if the charge is below 65% I notice if I do a wipe cache data is good for about a week before it start all over again. I may get the button replace again.
