Nexus 5..... LG?

I pledged never to buy another LG after I bought the worst smart phone of 2011, the G2x.
Admittedly, the nexus 4 is much prettier than the G2x.

Never is a looooong time. LG may be the lesser to two evils though - the next Nexus (after the Nexus 5) is being built by Motorola.

Actually, I think Google Owning Moto actually makes moto LESS likely to make a nexus. Now, Google can control the phones and they will be very nexus like as it is. I'm betting that they will stick with helping other manufactures (not Samsung as they are so strong) improve their Smartphone sales and manufacturing.

I say you should retract that pledge. The N4 is still one of the best-designed and best-functioning phones even several months after its release. LG has stepped up its game.

That sure seems unusually definitive. Are you an insider who works for Google? Even if so, Google likely hasn't even chosen a company to build a Nexus 6.

All the mobile oems are in the running. The speculation is nice but Google has no reason to follow a set pattern. If Google wants to use Samsung they will regardless if they used Samsung 3 times. They can use Motorola if they wanted regardless what they said about Motorola not getting a special treatment.

You are aware that Google OWNS Motorola, right? My sources don't meet the EBP standard, but sometimes you only need to connect the dots to see the picture.

Google has specifically stated that Motorola wouldn't get special treatment. If they did that, how do you think the other OEMs would feel?

I agree with the sentiment that they don't have to give Moto a Nexus in order to improve Moto. They can easily have Moto innovate in hardware and Google innovate in software and then share between the two just as they share software with HTC, Sony, etc.

That's a meaningless pledge and CEO-speak which is a different language than what you and I speak (it's a closely related offshoot dialect of "politician-speak"). They can go back on that whenever they choose, and probably will. As I said elsewhere I could easily see them continuing the Nexus line while also being closely involved with a Moto line

I'd be fine with LG getting the Nexus 5, I think they deserve it with the fantastic job they did on the 4. I was quite surprised by LG. The 4 had less issues and performed better than all of the more popular OEM phones of 2012 like the OneX and GS3. Heck it was the first Android phone ever that I thought finally brought Android up the the premium league.

Or Google only bought moto for their parents and will never seriously use them for hardware... Which is just as likely as them using them exclusively for anything. I still say that all the Google using moto talk is just wishful thinking. Nothing has yet said otherwise, yet ppl are claiming moto nexus with absolutely no reasoning behind it besides that moto is owned by Google. Which I would agree with if Google was in the hardware business, but they aren't. They only dabble in hardware to push markets in their interests.

After the G2X, and after RMA'ing 3 Nexus 4's in as many months I'd have to heartily disagree with you LG should never make another Nexus device.

Why? Because you were so unlucky as to get 3 defective units? This could happen with any other phone. It's just a matter of chance.

The reason you see so many people complaining about defective N4s in this website is because no one really makes a new thread to say that their phone is working fine. The truth is that the N4 is as good as any other phone quality-wise (if not better).

Considering that I've never been that unlucky with any other manufacturer with any cell phone I've ever owned I wouldn't call that unlucky, especially taking into consideration LG's track record with other phones like the G2X. At some point it isn't a matter of being unlucky and it becomes a matter of making poor quality hardware. I would have sent back the device for a fourth time, but I had the phone in my pocket and bumped against my couch and the back glass cracked at the speaker, another failing of the device, so now I am stuck with it. I was very pleased to hear about the new GS4 coming out in June, because that means I won't have to deal with LG for much longer, and I can go back to a much more reliable company.

I would like to see LG make another Nexus phone giving them an opportunity to better build upon the success of the N4. Now what Google needs to do is a) but real amount of storage on the phone, b) put a microSD in the phone and c) but most importantly order enough darn phones to begin with.

Agree with all but the micro SD card. Not only will it never happen, but they should modify Android to prevent their use. Right now they only exclude support. What's the card for if you have sufficient internal storage and the cloud for backup? We should demand an end to removable storage and inclusion of 256 or 512gb devices.
