Nexus 5, Moto X or Other

I saw one one here already. Jerry took the video intending to show how cool the always on functionality is (and yes, it is cool).

What it showed me was how much slower the Moto X is at the same tasks. The difference is not dramatic, but definitely noticeable.

I think the Moto X is the better phone for people who will actually use the always on functionality and/or need better battery life, and who do not necessarily care that it is slower. Which is why I always tell people that "best" depends on what is most important to you. No smartphone out right now is the best in every area (no matter what price point). They all make compromises.

You have never been hands-on with a Moto X that wasn't a display model then. Because since I have both here and can clearly see the speed is with the Moto x EVEN UNDER LOAD.

But sadly you can't have a unbiased discussion about Nexus devices here because the fanboys are blind to anything outside their little nexus box. I was a Nexus only owner till the Nexus 5 but then I had to see if the rumors were true about the Moto X. And oddly enough education can cure fanboy blindness.

moto x user here.

i wish i had a nexus 5. the extra quarter inch on the diagonal is really nice when consuming visual media. i'm a big ebook reader, and struggle with the moto x. a 5" screen is adequate.

i will say there is nothing the moto x can't do. it is straight up a very slick device. it has taught me to not be a spec *****.

as far a speakers go, throw a cheap bluetooth speaker in your car and just leave it there. my car's stereo doesn't have bluetooth, or an aux jack.

I totally agree that specs don't always mean anything examples the moto x and the moto G both great phones and low specs. However in regards to what is better again its all down to opinion and an endless debate.

I have both the note 3 & nexus 5 and wow I'm one happy guy like them both for different reasons.

Like the moto x and nexus 5 debate here both although I have never used a moto x I'm sure they are equally as good.

That is not even a contest. If you have videos demonstrating your claim I'd be happy to look at them. Have not seen any so far.

How dare we not take the unverifiable anecdotal evidence of Moto X fanboys as fact. Whats wrong with us.

Calm people they are just phones and both good nexus 5 and the moto x. All down to what best suited your needs and likes.

I've been using FM transmitters. They work well most of the time. They are not as good as bluetooth though for sure.

What I have been looking for is a FM transmitter that ALSO has bluetooth. This would basically allow me to connect my phone to my stereo in a completely wireless way. Have not found any so far.

Specs don't mean jack if you can't go a full day without looking for a charger.

I think the battery issue has been greatly exaggerated. Anandtech did some thorough tests and this is what they found.

Just saying, your results may vary. Not all reviewers agree.

Also, what's the point of those specs besides just bragging about them?

Specs translate into real world performance. I have found this out the hard way in the past,. What works well now may be slow in 6 months or a year when apps are more demanding. So excess horsepower always matters IMO, even if you are not going to use it right this minute.

To me it is never about bragging rights. It's about futureproofing. I've gone the "OMG specs don't matter" route before and regretted it.

i can't say moto x' battery life is all that fabulous. i have no stats, nothing more than the real life experience that moto x fanboys want to rely on to justify the lower specs, and my real life experience is that with light use, i get through the day. barely.

i use republic wireless and i think that has something to do with it. the operating system is constantly reverting from wifi to cellular, and back, and i think that is placing a drain on things. standby also isn't that great. i'm thinking the active notifications is at issue here. i'm thinking of disabling it altogether, as perhaps this is a feature that is waay overblown as cool. i find it annoying. little goes on in my life that i need to know right now. it can wait 10 minutes.

You just proved my point, with the Nexus 5 you are just looking at benchmarks. Use both of them side by side yourself. I never go by what a tech publication says because your mileage may vary greatly. You can get a good idea, but you have to use the device yourself to make a serious conclusion.

So you are saying the Moto X is terrible and he shouldn't buy? I'm pretty sure the Moto X will be fine. Reading tech news all the time will get any one worried. You'll start imagining your phone getting slow. Mind you a great majority of android users use low underspecced devices. What makes you think a decidedly high end device won't handle what the majority of other android users are supposed to be able to. If a developer uses some stupidly high demanding app, they cut out a lot of potential users.

Yeah, we saw that with the battery benchmarks. Apparently the Moto X does not have a better battery after all. At least not for everyone.

If you say so. "So you are saying the Moto X is terrible and he shouldn't buy?" seems pretty clear to me. And I thought it was obvious I was saying no such thing. I never even implied it was terrible or that he should not buy it.

The Moto X was #2 in my top ten list of Android phones.

Here's my ranking of the top 10 Android smartphones. What do you guys think are the top 10? I put an asterisk next to the ones that I've owned.

It is just weird to me how defensive people get over a phone. It's just a phone.

We all have at some point defended our choice in phone but a line needs drawn. Yes its all good to point out the pro's your experiences ect. That said every phone had flaws little niggles and for some they just appear pointless or unusable.

We are all individuals with our own choicrs , likes, dislikes etc and I find personally that its great to have that open mind.

I really like my Note 3 & Nexus 5 both very fast, smooth and stylish phones. But no doubt some will say no I prefer the moto x, HTC one ect and they are great also see its far better to discuss.

You defend your family not a material object lol
