Nexus 5 on Sprint - Global or LTE mode?

Morning ladies and gents,

I had a question that kind of made me wonder something about my Nexus 5 today.

I walked into my office today where I've historically never had anything better than 3G. Today, however, I walked in, sat at my desk and realized I had LTE. I did a speed test and had DL: 13.4Mbps and UL: 4.8Mbps. Shocked, I wondered if they switched something on overnight, so I decided to turn off the phone, and turn it back on. LTE went down to 3G and my speeds are now 2.4Mbps and 0.89Mbps (which is actually faster than it has been in the last few weeks).

I was looking around on the settings and something popped out to me. If you go to Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode, you can pick whether you want it on Global or LTE mode.

Mine (purchased from the Play Store) was on Global mode. I've been able to get LTE signal just fine everywhere I know I've had LTE before on other phones, but I was wondering if it would make any difference switching those two battery/signal wise. Currently at the office, I get the same signal/speed with either mode.

Additionally, for those of you who bought your Nexus 5 phones directly from Sprint, what setting is setup by default?
