Nexus 5: Problems & Issues

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

I know the 311 and the 312 version is pretty much the same design. But apparently, there is a difference with speakers hole size and tighter buttons between the 310 (the one I have) and 311/312 version.

Not according to those who got 2nd and 3rd replacements.

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

Cell standby is reporting way too much time without signal. Battery chart doesn't show the same thing but my battery life is almost half of what it used to be almost a week ago. Posted my own thread and considering making it open to all signal/radio related problems as Google needs to do some fixing.

I am also considering calling Google and just having them give me a refund for the device even though I am a week outside my return policy. Funny how things stop working just outside that window. I may just give them a call for heads up and ask them if there isn't a fix in X amount of time if they can't accept a refund if I have it in my file.

I remember a similar issue I had when the phone just refused to accept a signal sometimes even on 4.4.2. It would just disconnect and I would miss calls and texts. I always had to restart to get it working again. For those wondering, it was an AT&T sim. This is definitely an issue which needs to be fixed

Hi all!
I was playing with my nexus 5 and after 5-6 minutes it was so hot.
An app showed that the CPU temperature in Apshalt 8 was about 75-78?C.
Is this temperature okay?:'(

Not sure what that is in F... But mine runs pretty warm sometimes. I guess as long as it doesn't burn you there's nothing to worry about. It would be a rare freak accident if the battery exploded.

Its about 172 F... And it is not the battery it is the CPU's temperature!
Others say their phone are about 60?C max but mine can be 80?C too...
And graphic intense games like asphalt 8 is very very choppy after 5-10 minutes...

That doesn't sound right. The phone must be running other apps in the background. But it's not working the way you need it to so don't be afraid to return it, others have for less reasons.

In the desktop world you would be starting to consider a new heat sink and/or a new paste job - that's much too warm. Desktop thresholds are usually somewhere in the 80s and it's preferred to keep it below or right around 60 under full load. Not sure in the mobile space.

There has been reports of some people's N5s getting way too warm under load. Not sure if there was a fix or if they needed a replacement.

The CPU temperature is a little high but not something overly terrible. The lag however is an issue with hardware. The nexus is under-clocking to keep the heat down causing a drop in frame rate. I've seen it on a lot of the nexus devices; It's an issue that needs to be fixed by LG and Google

T-mobile stores usually have them on display.

O.K. Went into a Sprint store today, and struck up a conversation with a rep about the N5. He had one in the back that someone had returned yesterday, in favor of the HTC One. I got to play around with it, and it looks good, but it feels "light". Anyway, i asked the rep why it was returned, and he was told that the person didn't like where the LED light was placed, and that it was too "plasticy". I agree with the second argument, but as long as it has an LED on the front, i really don't care where it is. Just my two cents worth.:p

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

Mine was seemingly working great the first few weeks after purchase. Now in the last week, the battery is draining like crazy while I sleep at night (like losing 30-40%). The battery section of the settings app is showing that either Android OS or com.android.chrome:sand.. is doing the majority of the damage. Starting to **** me the **** off. Just a week ago my phone would only lose about 5% over a normal nights sleep.

In the process of troubleshooting it the last few days....only thing that seems to correlate with the crap battery drain is having OK Google hotword detection on. When it's off the problem goes away. I know there is no reason that function should be destroying battery to that extent though. So tonight I will put the phone in to safe mode, turn on OK Google, and see what the settings app shows me in the morning. This will supposedly clue me in to whether it is a 3rd party app doing the damage or something that came with the phone stock. I will be surprised if it is some rogue 3rd party app since the apps I use are all very basic and are also pretty much all apps that I used without problem on iOS for years (just switched to Android for the first time in December).

Loved this phone at first but am becoming very annoyed by this current issue. Even with a three year old, jailbroken, heavily tweaked iPhone 4 I never experienced this kind of battery drain.

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

New owner as of yesterday morning and in my opinion I have been having an unsavory experience with my new toy so far. I'm not new to these phones at all, but as an owner I am. My first issue is battery life, as in, 30minutes of use and I'm in the low 80% range. I figured thats a bad sign regardless of being new. I have yet to place on wifi or any other network and I also switched off most notable power draining programs. I used it til about 10pm last night then recharged to 100 or until the little bolt symbol disappeared. Used for 30 minutes again just playing with settings and looking through the wallpapers, and voila, low 80s again. No other phone I have ever owned drained almost 20% in a half hr.

Moving on, something rattles like crazy if I use the vibrate function with any app that supports it instead of the normal "hmmm" type of vibration. Almost like its about to come apart.

And lastly there is absolutely no sign of an hdr+ option on my camera which is what i thought the updates were supposed to address, camera features/characteristics. I've factory reset this thing 3 times now and kinda feel like I'm gonna send it back and stick with my gs2 since I gave my lady the note 3. Any advice before such a decision?

The battery is an issue related to software and one that's been reported on a ton of forums. Sadly, I can't help you out with that issue except offering ways to improve it. As for the vibrating issue, have you checked the phone? Loose power button? Loose vibration motor? These things can cause a sound like that. I also found the camera to make a rattling noise sometimes because of the optical image stabilization.

I don't use the nexus 5 anymore so I can't remember where the setting is for HDR+. I know it should be one of the options under the camera but I can't remember where.

Try mumble's link, if it's still having problems snag a new one via RMA. If it's still have problems and you are uncomfortable with keeping it, send it in for a full refurnd. I was told several times your return policy resets with a replacement device. They also pay shipping back when you return it due to a defect.

Do you have Weather bug installed? Someone else just posted about huge battery drains from that.

The HDR+ option is in the radial settings menu that pops up when you hold your finger down on the screen in the camera app.

You know, after playing around with the N4 that my friend had, i really wanted the N5. All they had to do was add the 4G LTE. But no, instead of taking two steps forward, they took three steps back. Oh well, come on N6.:(

The Nexus 5 does have 4G LTE bands...
