Nexus 5: Problems & Issues

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

What do you mean?

Judging from what i've been reading in this forum, the build quality is NOT what it should, or could be. Too many problems. The main selling point, getting quick updates, is being negated by devs who quickly get the new updates put into their roms, although that takes about a week or two. IMO, the phone just feels cheap and lightweight. I'm very disappointed with Google, in this regard. I know that the N4 had a problem with the glass back, but at least it felt like a phone. I'll wait for the N6, and hopefully, they'll use somebody other than LG(they should stick to refrigerators).:(

I like the build. I think it feels very high quality but each their own I guess :). The LTE bugs are almost certainly software issues and Google is aware of the problem. Pretty sure an update in the next few weeks is in order. 4.4.1 was supposed to fix the problems with a radio patch but it seemed to have just made things worse. Give it a month or two and the device should be rock solid. The Note 3 - it basically uses the same hardware for all cell communication: data and voice - also had serious problems that are almost identical to ours. Samsung released an update just a little bit ago that supposedly fixes the problems (no definite data on if it has or not) so I bet Qualcomm got things figured out and pushed the update to Samsung which should mean Google will be pushing the fix to N5 users after they incorporate into the software.

Aren't opinions interesting. I equate heavy and bulky with outdated and cheap and the feel and lightness of the Nexus 5 with high quality.

I know, but it's what else that they did with it, that i'm not happy with. I can wait until next year.:)

OK. You said "all they had to do was" add the LTE bands. Didn't know that wasn't all they had to do. ;)

Sure because any other manufacturer wouldn't have any problems at all turning out a product they really make very little profit on for customers who return units for the faintest rattle of a power button (not to insult anyone who did) and other structural nondefects.

I'm no manufacturer, but shouldn't it have been rock solid before it left google? Samsung has the same issue with not testing things well. They should've done a lot more beta testing for the nexus 5. Maybe, just maybe if they did more beta testing they would've caught the issues I hated. Hopefully the nexus 6 will be better.

I'm extremely happy with my Nexus 5. But then, I'm not an iPhone user.

I'm not trying to bash the nexus 5 in any way, I'm just saying it should have been tested better. Besides the software, they skipped adding a polarizer film to help with the light bleed. That's why you see the screen turn white when you look at it at an angle. The second thing is terrible volume out of the headphone jack compared to other phones. These are two things which should have been caught in the prototypes

I'm not an iPhone user, i'm Android all the way. Please don't turn this forum into a "crackberry troll bash". I've just stated my opinion, and my disappointment, after waiting six months to buy the N5. I really wanted to love it. I only have one phone(SGSIII), and no back-ups. For me, $350.00 is a lot of money to plunk out, and still be disappointed. DroidArmy hit the nail on the head. Instead of rushing out the phone, more testing needed to be done. When all the numbers are in, i believe that the N4 will have outsold the N5. Just my personal opinion.:(

Well I'm saying I really don't see or have the problems you apparently do. I'd bet most people who bought the phone were happy with it.

My screen doesn't turn white when I look at it from an angle. My headphone jack outputs sound just fine. Again, I have no idea what the problems are because they are nothing I've noticed or have.

It would be polite but dishonest of me not to say that I do believe you exactly do intend to bash the Nexus 5. I'm not sure why but I certainly feel that way towards Apple just for personal reasons. So it isn't outside the realm of possibility that you and others get something out of bashing the N5 and LG, as well as Android itself in some cases.

The difference is I don't seek out the Apple forums to share my opinion. It might almost be worth the price of admission though to buy an iPhone on contract, sell it asap, and be able to speak from "experience" about how much it and Apple sucks. Oops, we don't use that language. OK. About how it really should have been tested better. Especially with iOS 7!

Fair enough. Let me explain some things:

I'M NOT HERE TO BASH THE NEXUS 5. I used the phone for a solid week and sent it back for the reasons which have been mentioned across many forums such as XDA. On XDA there is a solid example of the viewing angle issue (related to the polarizer film not used) and the sound output issue.

This isn't the place for arguing. However, you brought it up. While the nexus 5 still has a select amount of software issues like the radio, Apple has already fixed 99% of the issues with ios 7.1 fixing the rest. Also, last time I checked, this is the problems and issues thread for this specific kind of discussion. It's not like I'm blasting this out all over XDA and android central. A guy brought it up and I agreed with him.

Now, if you don't kind, I would appreciate it if this doesn't continue. I'm a user here just like everyone else. I don't need somebody questioning my opinion or my choices at every corner. Thanks 😄

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

Got my N5 on Tuesday and after adjusting to the changes in the OS (my EVO 4G LTE is on 4.1 and Sense), I'm happy. I've gone through the entire thread and I've had none of those problems. I guess the only problem I have is that I should have ordered this sooner. Black N5 32 GB

I would agree in a perfect world but look at every manufacturer's major release lately. Game consoles ship with half worked out software, requiring console purchasers to download huge updates. Even Apple has had the blunders of Apple Maps and the mess of iOS 7 bugs. Samsung releases phones that have the same problems. Can't remember a major launch in the past year that has gone smoothly with no major bugs.

It's a sad time in the technology industry. Nobody is really putting in the time needed to make a solid product on day one

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

Speaking for myself, i'm not a Nexus basher, and i'm not an Apple basher either. I'm an Android user who's just disappointed in the way that Google rushed the N5 into production without testing it fully. Believe me when i say that i really wanted to love the N5. I've been dreaming of owning one for six months now, and it didn't live up to my expectations. I think that the hardware issues will be fixed very soon. All i'm saying is that the hardware issues that some people are experiencing, never should have been there to begin with. Once again, imho, they released the phone too soon. That's it, end of story.

The polarizer is an obvious one. The keys are still loose and rattling, some still have a yellow tint, etc.
