Nexus 5: Problems & Issues

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

Judging from what i've been reading in this forum, the build quality is NOT what it should, or could be. Too many problems. The main selling point, getting quick updates, is being negated by devs who quickly get the new updates put into their roms, although that takes about a week or two. IMO, the phone just feels cheap and lightweight. I'm very disappointed with Google, in this regard. I know that the N4 had a problem with the glass back, but at least it felt like a phone. I'll wait for the N6, and hopefully, they'll use somebody other than LG(they should stick to refrigerators).:(

you're in a problem thread. ofcourse all you see are the negatives and not the thousands that are completely fine and happy with their phone. ive ordered 3 nexus 5, all were perfect with zero problems here. every phone has problems and manufacturer defects, luck of the draw. only one of the phone has the power button rattle and i always had the rattle on my old motorola razr, it was never a problem, its just a little loose. quit knitpicking

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

Do you have Weather bug installed? Someone else just posted about huge battery drains from that.

Nope. Though I do have multiple other weather widgets enabled (Yahoo and Android Weather on separate home screens). Having said that, both of these have been in full effect weeks prior to this problem beginning.

....and as a follow up to my previous posts: ran the phone in safe mode with OK Google functionality turned on and that seemed to prevent the battery drain (only lost about 5% of the battery over 8+ hours of sleep). So according to my research, that means that it must be a third party app doing the damage here (even though it only seems to happen when OK Google is turned on). Won't be a cakewalk to figure out which app is doing the dirty work though since all it says in the battery section of the settings app is "Android OS". Lost 70% of my battery last night while I was asleep with Android OS as the main culprit! Getting worse and worse it seems. Really, really, really looking forward to getting to the bottom of this and going back to truly enjoying this new phone.

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

I'm not trying to bash the nexus 5 in any way, I'm just saying it should have been tested better. Besides the software, they skipped adding a polarizer film to help with the light bleed. That's why you see the screen turn white when you look at it at an angle. The second thing is terrible volume out of the headphone jack compared to other phones. These are two things which should have been caught in the prototypes

I can get not being a fan of this phone for certain reasons....but not the "reasons" you listed. Headphone volume seems the same as my iPhone and I have had no problem with light bleed.

You do have Google Now set to battery saving mode (in location settings) right?

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

I have Google Now completely disabled actually. If you're simply referring to location mode, I keep it either turned off or in battery savings mode.

I understand that, but what would i learn from going to a "happy" thread? I was all set to pull the trigger and buy one, but i just wanted to find a "live" one first. Well, i finally found one, and it just felt too light, not like the N4 that my friend had. I guess that i was just expecting a better feel to it. I went into this forum to read what other problems there might be, and now i've decided to keep my SGSIII for a while longer. I'm sure that by the Spring or Summer, these problems will be corrected, and i may take another look at the N5. Keep in mind, that by the Summer, Nexus people will be starting to clammer for the N6, so you can see where i'm going with this. By the way, my friend was so disappointed with the N5, that he's keeping his N4 until the next one comes out.:)

It may not be an issue for you, but many people have reported it. Some guy did measurements against the iPhone and nexus 5 and saw that the nexus 5 could only get to a little over half of the volume of the iPhone. I had the light bleed issue on my nexus 5 which bothered me like crazy. It just looked wrong and cheap. The polarizer film would cost Google 30 cents to put on the nexus 5 to solve the issue. I realize a lot of people aren't as bothered by these issues but it shouldn't of happened in the first place

Time won't add weight to the n5, but a case might. If you just want a lower price, why not buy one used?

What was being tested for volume? The ringtones are extremely quiet. Others can be downloaded which are much louder. Since the updates, the speaker hurts my ears at loud volume. This "lightbleed" thing is something I still have no idea about.

So, volume was fixed. Camera was fixed. Light bleed, not a mass problem. Other stuff obviously not mass problems. Phone feeling "light" or "cheap", don't buy one sight unseen next time, if aesthetics is more important to you than what's under the hood.

Music, ringtones, movies, everything. Across the board the iPhone was much louder. This test was done with the 4.4.2 update as well. So no, I don't believe it was fixed at all. I'll ignore the light bleed because it isn't a massive issue.

There's actually a problem with what's under the hood. The snapdragon 800 is having tons of heat issues which is causing a frame rate drop in games. 4 cores running at somewhere above 2 ghz in a small phone setting is ridiculous. It should be at the most 4 cores clocked at a max of 1.5 ghz to prevent overheating.

I don't use the n5 for games. If you're that unhappy with the phone you really should just sell it and move on.

I did return the nexus 5. I sent it back and bought an iPhone. These are issues which should've never happened in the first place. But hey, this is just my opinion. I don't think anyone made a bad choice by buying the nexus 5

Compared to other phones I really don't think it's a bad choice. It's not the choice I would make, but it isn't a bad one.

Light bleed is just a problem with LCD technology. Most screens will have some light bleed but some are worse than others. Coming from AMOLED it's sort of annoying when the screen is display dark scenes or colors, but 95% of the time I don't even notice it. The other times I can ignore it. People need to understand that Google did need to cut a few corners to get pricing down. The screen is amazing but does have a bit more light bleed than the competition - wait, what competition? :) No phone this nice has ever been sold MSRP at the prices it's going for. I do wish the software bugs were fixed before launch though...

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

Yes, I agree. The battery problems some are having are a real problem and software based I'd think. But I don't notice the others if I even have them.

Louder or better quality. It is pretty simple to fix all those problems (not the light bleed) by rooting. It is the best solution if you want a slow phone with a distorted speaker. Oh and, do you mean it about the 1.5Ghz thing or are you jealous because even the moto g has a faster processor (1.2 quad is definitely better than 1.3 dual...)

The iPhone tops the audio quality test of gsm arena every time. I rooted and still nothing could beat the iPhone. Even a windows phone I had lying around sounded better. I mean the 1.5 ghz thing is respectable and not outrageous. Overheating the internals of a phone to the point where games lag because the clock speed is too high doesn't make it better. Apple actually knows this and optimizes for lower speed cores which are more efficient. Oh by the way, the A7 crushes the snapdragon 800 in every test done. So no, I'm not jealous. Enjoy the crashing, overheating, corner cutting abomination to the industry that is the nexus 5. I actually enjoyed the nexus 4, but the nexus 5 was a step in the wrong direction. HTC should make the nexus 6
