Nexus 5 stuck in fastboot

Hello,
I have had my Nexus 5 for about a year. It started to do random shut downs then it started to shut down every time it hit the lock screen. Now, it just stays at the Andriod launch screen (google bubbles) and just turns itself off there. When I try to do a factory reset I get the following error E: failed to mount /cashe (invalid argument).
I then went to maybe doing a side boot load of Kit Kat but I am not too familiar with this and my device was never unlocked. My phone would not get recognized using the SDK manager on a Mac unless I do the adb side load in recovery mode. I have tried many videos but when I try to do ./adb sideload filename I get Total xfer: 0.00x every time.
I am using platform tools in the Terminal and I am using the file I got straight from google on factory images.
I have contacted google and they sent the problem to LG.
Thank you for any help!
