Nexus 5x connectivity issues

I have recently bought 2 brand new Nexus 5x devices for my kids. I put their active nano sims in these devices and powered them on just as I have down numerous times before when switching devices on my own line. I have the same issue with both devices in that they will not make or receive calls. According to my profile they are active and should be functioning but will not call out or receive calls. I took them to my local Verizon store and they had no answers for me. They advised I call tech support. I have used unlocked devices before with no issues at all. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
 
I would try a new SIM and also ensure the APN settings didn't blank out.
 
Which Nexus 5x did you get? Is it the International H791 or the H790? You need it to be the regular H790.
 
Turns out they are the 791. I didn't realize there were different models. I plan in switching to ATT in a couple of months because of a huge discount through my employer. Will these models work with ATT? Thank you for your input.

According to will my phone work, it will. I have no experience with it though.
