I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem with their Nexus 5, I first saw this today (24/10/15). It appears on the home screen at the bottom saying "Fingerprint Hardware not available" I restarted my device and this fixed it but I am now encountering the same issue 15 mins later. My phone hasn't been in contact with any water or anything it has been in a case and is still in perfect condition.

Interesting. I haven't seen that message and I've had mine since Wednesday and only unlock with fingerprint. Have you tried a factory reset?

It's now started working again, it seems to be on and off working. I'm not sure if it's now working again because i've started charging it. I've had mine since Wednesday too and I haven't had any issues apart from this.

Contact Google and ask for an RMA to exchange. You have a device with flawed hardware, at least IMO. If it's doing it already, that's a bad sign. And it doesn't sound like something that a factory reset is going to fix.

The sooner that you do it, the less likely that you'll run into trouble with the warranty process.

They're sending me out a new one and I don't have to send this one back until I receive the new one so i will not be without a phone, very good service from Google

This just happened to my partner today. Not very promising to hear she's not the only one with this problem. I have a 6p. Let's hope this isn't going to turn into a nightmare. If we get another sent before sending this one back that will help. But you have to wonder being so new if there are going to be issues...

So I rang Google UK support, and they wanted me to do a reset. I explained this was my partners phone, and wasn't with me and I wanted a new one. They wouldn't send me a new one without doing the factory reset. So I told them under UK law that I had 30 days to send back a defective item for a full refund - so I'm going to do that and buy an iPhone. I always said I'd kill myself if ever I got an apple product, but I got my Mum an iPad air, and to be honest the only thing I can complain about it is not being able to login with multiple accounts. I just spent £900 on phones - and am regretting getting my nexus 6p now as well. Getting support from Apple would have been so much easier - and I know because I am supporting > 100 apple devices and all I have to do is walk into a shop down the road...

You don't have 2 minutes to do a reset and see if it works. Ignorant.. Or apple fan boy

Google are taking both our phones back and giving us a refund. Good service from that perspective - but having had a couple of not so good pinch to zoom experiences in photos on the 6P also, it is making me consider more seriously a switch to Apple. Annoying features like alarms not waking us up to do with the new doze feature etc all add weight to putting me off the latest android. I seem to be having to use even more nerdiness to get on with life, and perhaps its time for the simple life....

Sweet fancy Moses so just switch already! We get it, they don't fit your lifestyle where you apparently need others to solve your cell phone confusions. Apple is great for that, you'll be totally satisfied.

This just happened to me for the first time. Don't worry not returning to get an iphone. But it is concerning.
