I'm torn between these two options. What would you pick and why?

Moto x is easier to hold in the hand and has features like Moto assist, Moto display, and you can customize with Moto maker. The nexus 6 has a good battery, large screen with a higher res (1080p vs 1440p) and the newest Snapdragon 805 processor. And that's about all I can tell you.

I think the biggest factor is one is 5.2 inches and the other is 6. Which are you more comfortable with?

I would take the Moto X...it's going to get the same exact updates as soon as the Nexus, it's smaller, and you get to design it how you want. The camera on both is going to be the same. The Nexus has more RAM. The Moto X will have Moto Display and I don't believe the Nexus will.

I had an HTC Maxx over the summer. The thing was huge and I like the big phones. The Nexus 6 is the same size. I want it because it's a Nexus but I think I'll pass on it this time unless they make a "mini" version

I already have the X, it's the biggest of a phone I want for pocketability. I want the Nexus 6 to use as a backup home device and tablet too, but then I bought the Nexus 7 already. I'm tempted by the specs and camera of the 6, but I may have to skip due to the size. I don't like carrying around big phones.

Isn't the nexus gonna have moto display, only its gonna be called ambient display or something like that?

It might have ambient display, but the Moto X takes full advantage of the technology with its AMOLED screen, which keeps the black pixels turned off, making Active display more power efficient

The camera is not the same. The Nexus 6 uses a newer Sony IMX 214 sensor with OIS while the new Moto X uses an older IMX 135 sensor with no OIS. We can't say for sure quite yet, but the Nexus 6 will most likely take better pictures than the Moto X so if pictures are important the Nexus 6 will probably be a better choice.

I owned the new Moto X and really liked it, but ended up returning it to wait for the Nexus 6 in hopes of a better camera and better battery life. I'm also looking forward to having a larger screen and a Nexus on Verizon.

I am going to buy the Nexus 6..... I wanted to trim down to just one device... I already sold my Nexus 7 and I will sell my Nexus 5 as soon as the Nexus 6 is in the mail (or FedEx/UPS)

Size is going to be the MAIN difference between the two.... Not enough people have the N6 in hand (or offered up any good solid reviews) so it's hard to see just how big it feels in the hand... I found the Moto X feels smaller in the hand than it actually is... The N6 has the same design language so hopefully it's actually very comfortable in the hand....

We won't know how well that BIGGER battery does until people starting putting the N6 through the ringer....

I also like the front facing speakers... Hopefully the sound is powerful so I don't have to cup my hand to direct the sound from my N5 towards me... Again front facing speakers is an awesome idea as long as they are GOOD front facing speakers...

I currently have a 2014 Pure Edition, which I absolutely love. The Bamboo back is just awesome. But, I will be returning it since I'm within the return period and wait for the Nexus 6. I have never owned a phone bigger than that of a 2014 X so ergonomically the Nexus 6 might not be comfortable for me, but we shall see.

If I get accustomed to the N6 well and good, if not I'll reorder the 2014 X.
By the time this is all said and done, we'll be closer to Black Friday and Motorola might offer some sweet discounts on the 2014 X like they did last year on the 2013 X.
So, in short if I were you I'd wait for the N6, use it for a few days and then decide.

Are you sure the IMX135 in the MotoX is older than the IMX214 in the Nexus6? According to Wikipedia, Sony considers the IMX135 technology more advanced (it's "stacked" Exmor RS tech): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exmor

The camera is not the same. The Nexus 6 uses a newer Sony IMX 214 sensor with OIS while the new Moto X uses an older IMX 135 sensor with no OIS. My biggest concerns are battery life and camera. I love the Moto X features but it looks like a lot of them are now in lollipop. I wish somebody would have released some comparison videos today before I preordered my Nexus 6 from Motorola.

If I weren't on t-mobile's Jump plan and would be paying outright for the phone, I'd definitely go for the new moto x. Love the software bonuses and it's $150 cheaper. Size - I'd love to have both!

The Nexus 6 has an AMOLED display also.

As a compromise, maybe the OnePlus One? Similar the the Moto X (2014), but slightly larger and slightly better specs in some areas. Maybe a 5.5" screen fancies you more than a 5.2"? :)

I'm picking the Nexus 6 because I want the bigger screen & battery. If they had ended the Nexus program then the Moto X Pure edition would have been my next phone. I remember playing with the Moto X in the store, and immediately liking the way it felt in my hand, compared to my Iphone 6 Plus. It wasn't the size, just the way it felt with the curved back and metal sides.

Is the nexus 6 150 dollars better than the moto x? I'm gonna say yes it is but not everyone gets the same value out of what I feel makes it better. The price increase compared to the last two nexus phones no longer make this a blind day one purchase for me. That being said I'm probably gonna go nexus 6 but I am going to wait until I can actually see one in person first before pulling the trigger.
