Nexus 6: Price

It looks like the Nexus 6 is going to be $649.

The Note 4 on Verizon is only $699.

Well this has nearly the same specs as the note (screen, processor, ram) I think it may have had something to do with the carriers saying if they are going to sell it, it needs to be more in line with other flagship pricing wise. And this looks like the first time google hasn't cut any corners with the nexus to achieve a low price. Camera is still to be decided, but latest processor, ram, and 2k screen all are top of the line.

Exactly. I think if you want a higher resolution display, you'd better be willing to pay for it.
Currently on a Z2 after having an N5,M8 and S5 this year. Bored with the HD displays now, the Z2 display looks grainy in comparison to the N4 QHD I've seen.

Yet they're very similar spec wise. Note 4 will probably have better camera, but the Nexus has better software IMO. So it's a fairly priced phone.

The funny part is if you go online and look up a replacement qHD screen/digitizer for the LG G3 it runs about $120 - 150.... If you hunt for a replacement screen/digitizer for the Note 3 (just 1080p) it's $170 - 190..... The Note 3 screen is a little bigger and you have to account for bigger bezel as well (with the home button and all) and that is retail.... I am sure Samsung, LG and Google/Motorola pay much less than that in mass Qty...

So basically this is just a highly specced vanilla android phone like the last 2 nexii...

But sold at flagship prices without the flagship special features?

No thanks.

I am hoping against hope that Google will come through and subsidize this phone for $100-$200. This would still help it's Nexus cause, yet if people see it at the carrier they can get it subsidized by them.... I can dream right?

Hopefully $649 is a carrier price, and when it comes to the play store it will be a little cheaper. At att I figure it would be $35/month on the next program. Which is what I'm paying now for the Note 3.

What do you mean by special flagship features? You mean the unnecessary garbage that comes from heavy skins such as Touchwiz? This is a gimmick free Android phone that offers the smoothest Android experience possible. The specs on this baby are comparable to the Note 4.

Uh, what makes it not a flagship phone? And what 'special' features have the previous Nexus phones have? The only thing it's missing IMO is the Moto Software Suite but that is exclusive to Moto brand phones.

Everything about this phone says high end. So not sure why there are people whining about the price. The price equates to what the phone offers. Another thing that I have yet seen anyone state yet is that the phone will be available for subsidized pricing with contract at all major carriers. That makes the phone at an easier to chew $199-$299. Yes it's a contract but if you want it that badly, you'll probably do it. So mass availability, subsidized pricing on contract, and top tier specs. Makes sense to me it's $649 off contract.

Uh, yeah. Why would you expect anything else?
Uh all the previous nexus? Was it that hard?

All the other nexus had cutting edge current specs for $400

So you are upset cause Google is no longer subsidizing the phones unlocked? If you don't think the 6 is worth the extra $250, then don't buy it. The best way to get a company to notice is with your wallet. But I simply don't agree with the reason to hate the price on a perfectly priced phone.

Yeah, and the previous Nexus phones were nothing but "highly specced vanilla Android" phones.

Did you not see what I was responding to? I guess that really was hard--for you.

The last two Nexii made obvious cuts to hardware to shave the price. This one does not appear to do so. In any case, I don't see a better phone for less. And the comparable ones are $100 more.

It takes a lot of money and effort to make devices that are essentially handheld computers. That being said, we do have a wide spectrum of prices in Android phones (prices rounded):

Moto G - $180

OnePlus One - $300 - $350

Nexus 5 - $350 - $400

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - $530

Nexus 6 - starting at around $650

HTC One (M8) Google Play edition - $700

A tablet is also essentially a handheld computer too, but they sell for half if not less than a smartphone and have bigger screens. What are phone double the money of a tablet. Could it be that a cellular radio antenna is that expensive and explains the discrepancy?
