Nexus 6P - Android 6.0.1 Rolling Out Starting Today

Haven't seen the update yet, but I'm in no hurry, as my phone is working just fine (though LiteFlow is acting very wonky).

But, I have a question: I'm coming from a Verizon LG G2, and there were many, many issues with updates on that device. I got in the habit - on advice from others here at AC - of doing a FDR before any update and again after the update, and then manually reinstalling all apps. Many of us found that we had significant issues with our phones if we didn't follow this procedure.

Is anyone following such a procedure with their 6Ps? Does anyone feel it would be necessary? It would be really nice to not have to go through all that anymore.

No, not at all. I do factory reset my device after doing a major update but not a small update. For example, I wouldn't reset for a 6.0.0 to 6.0.1 which is what we just got but if it was Ice Cream Sandwich to Marshmallow I would.

I still do not understand why Google cannot rollout an update as Apple does. How difficult is it? Why should I not get the OTA the same day as everybody else? If Google doesn't make it with its own devices, then how do we expect that from other OEMs?

Google does it this way because if the is a problem that arises they can stop the update so it doesn't affect everyone. I remember a few years back when apple was rolling out IOS 7.1 I believe and there was a major glitch (I can't recall off the top of my head right now) that effected some phones and iPads and Apple had to come up with a fix a couple days really quickly. So there are pluses and minuses. Take it from me also as a person that owns an iPhone 6s as a back up phone. The current IOS 9.1 has its share of bugs also

Got the update two days ago. I accidentally turned on 'Alarms Only' mode and the option to 'End Now' does not work. Cannot find a way to turn this off. Nexus 6P.

I totally agree with you. I usually wait for OTA update but when you aren't getting them you can force update by going to apps in settings then force stopping/delete data on google frameworks services then reboot phone. Thats how I got 6.0.1on my 6P. My Nexus 7 got it before my 6P so I got fed up then forced the update. This has been the way I've been doing it with every nexus device I've ever had.

As said in other post above mine one way they can catch bugs quicker without it affecting every single phone. Also I believe they are just being nice with the carriers as well since you can download it over mobile data where Apple does not let you do that.

I tried that but no-go. I'll just sip my tea and wait on the OTA! I MIGHT break down and flash it but I'm sure I won't. LOL

I'm just going to be patient and wait for the OTA. My 6P is running like a dream, and there is nothing absolutely groundbreaking in 6.0.1 that I must have and can't wait another second for. Would be nice if I got it sooner, but I'd still be on Lollipop if I hadn't upgraded from my Note 4

The question you should be asking yourself, is there really any real world concern about the difference in 2 - 3 weeks between an iOS rollout and a Nexus android rollout?

Never ever had a issue and I've been with Nexus since the Nexus One. Cant believe everything you read especially in reddit. Anyone who hasn't got the OTA its totally safe to do it.

Your not supposed to clear the services framework. It could corrupt your Google log in. It happened to me and I could not download anything from the play store. This happened years ago, but I stopped doing that after it happened
