Nexus 6p getting notification that says unable to backup for 3 days.

When I long press the notification it tells me it's from the Google play app. I have gone through all settings and turned all the backups on, can't seem to fix.

Hello! Welcome to Android Central! This might sound silly, but did you restart your phone after changing the settings?

Hi, not silly at all. I know you have to ask but yes I have restarted the phone after changing settings. It is a new phone so I'm hoping maybe there's something I'm just not seeing?

re:

It might be for whatever reason, you aren't connecting to Google servers. The least intrusive thing I can think of is resetting app preferences. You can do so in Settings>apps>menu>reset app preferences. This will re enable any app you have disabled, and clear all defaults set.

re:

I have an S6 Edge, but I was having a similar problem and one of my tech guys said it may be a corrupted image/picture file that is snagging the back up. Basically the phone will index all uploadable items before beginning the upload and he suspected mine was getting hung up on a file. He suggested turning off Sync for each folder listed under "choose folders to back up" then turn of auto sync and close the app. Reopen the app, turn on auto sync, and select only one folder to sync.

If it still hangs on the backing up "1 of XX" he suggested opening the google photos app and making sure there were no conflicts with the back up settings under the "Assistant" tab in there. In theory changes in one of those two apps should influence and work in tandem with the other but if you have another default photos app or something that might create the issue. That one seemed like more of a stretch to me, but whatever works.

Re: Nexus 6p getting notification that says unable to backup for 3 days.

Hi! Welcome to Android Central!

I'd first start by going to settings>device>account>google and see if any of the individual sync's have been able to run or are they all red saying unable to sync? Is this being done over mobile data or wifi?

This a going out on a limb but best suggestions I got.
-Contact google to make sure there isn't a serve issue going on in your region.
-Wipe system cache via recovery. Clear app defaults via application manager. Wip app cache via settings>system>storage>cache.
-Toggle all sync settings off. Reboot device. Toggle back on.
-Sign out of Google account. Reboot device. Sign back in.

Hi, do you have any Google app, like photos, set to backup only through WiFi and when the phone is charging? Do you charge your phone at night with WiFi off or aeroplane mode on? I think this could be the origin of that notification.

No, luckily I'm grandfathered into an unlimited data plan so I have them all set to backup over cellular network. Thanks for the reply though!

If you have backup set to "only when charging and on WiFi" you will see this notification if those conditions haven't been met. I see this notification all the time, but then as soon as I plug it in at home on WiFi, it goes away as expected.
