Hi everyone loving my new Nexus 6P 32GB aluminum but one thing is bugging me and I can't tell if it is hardware/software based or is this just how the Nexus is: the volume. 1 to about just under 50% the volume is barely audible in most conditions based on the source, especially Netflix and most Youtube. 50-100 the sound is fine. I don't have another Nexus to test this against but it seems that other people have noticed the same behavior

Does your Nexus act like this? or should I be exchanging for a new one?

Thanks

My Nexus is the same. Volume output levels aren't the greatest.

Yeah, the volume sucks.
Worse with headphones, you can't hear over the road noise while in a moving vehicle.
Even worse, on phone calls.

You have to use a volume app to boost the volume.
I use Volume Ace which works.

Looked into Volume Ace and it really isn't anything beyond setting presets for your volumes. There is rooting the phone but I don't want to get into that. I still think this may be a defect because one poster said his is perfectly fine even during netflix

Why are you wearing headphones in a moving vehicle to begin with? Personally I'm glad it works that way, as you'd want to hear things like, you know, police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, etc.. That's what Bluetooth and car speakers are for. And if you don't have Bluetooth, they make adapters for FM frequencies or cassette decks.

It depends on the content/file/source.

Even on YouTube, some videos at 100% I feel like I need my ue Roll.

My speakers are loud using Play Music, Pandora, and some YouTube channels. So I'd have to say its most likely the source. If you find that's not the case, then you probably have a bad unit.

Maybe they are on bus? Or a street car? Or a passenger in a personal vehicle. Nowhere did it say that they had headphones in while driving.

Especially When you are a PASSENGER in a vehicle and you don't want to hear the rolling conversations between DRIVER and other passengers. Known in the 21st Century as "UBER NOISE".

Downloaded speakerboost and put boost to 25%. Google Play Music and Podcast Addict huge sound increase but Netflix and YouTube still poor bellow 50%. Which leaves to believe defiantly software based defect not hardware

I have the same issues as some of the above, that is to say that the volume seems to increase exponentially towards the upper levels. The biggest increase happens between the last two clicks. In YouTube the max volume seems a bit low, as if the speakers should have a bit more to give, but absolutely not too low. In Deezer, when the volume is maxed out, the speakers just barely start to distort, so I guess the low volume in YouTube is source related. Pity though that the volume regulation really only is usable between 50-100℅.

Yep, the one thing I don't like about the 6P is audio volume, both via the speakers and headphones via the audio jack. Bluetooth headphones can help, because they tend to have their own power and can often push better volume. I also use my Blutetooth speakers whenever I can.

And I do mean, It's literally the _only_ thing I don't like about the 6P.
