Thinking of getting a Nexus 6p/ Note 5. What are the pros and cons between these 2 devices?

6P: Pros
Fast Updates, both security and system.

Note 5: Pros
S-Pen, added functionality for large screen.

The Cons would be the other device lacking the Pros of the other.

When buying a Nexus, you used to be making the choice to sacrifice build, camera and screen for fast software updates. The 6P eliminates that. You finally can have your cake and eat it to.

While the Note 5 is fantastic, I'd suggest the 6P, UNLESS: You absolutely need the S-Pen.

Honestly, they are very similar phones. If you'd like extra features (s-pen, multi-window, etc) then the Note is your obvious choice. If you take a lot of pictures and are very concerned about camera quality, the Note wins that category as well. If you'd prefer fast updates, stock Android, and less bloat, then the Nexus is the phone for you. You can't really go wrong with either choice, as they are both amazing phones.

Video recording is light years better on the Note 5. The camera on the 6p is a great still shooter, but the lack of OIS destroys the video quality. Build quality is also better on the note 5.

Nexus 6P with Marshmallow and regular updates plus save what, $250? 6P > Note 5

Let's pretend they cost the same, with some random promotion Samsung is running.

Get the Nexus if quick upgrades and root are important to you. No bloat, and stock android you can build on.

Get the Note 5 if you absolutely need the best hardware, need the Spen features, and like some touchwiz features (RAM situation is kind of overblown) and don't mind waiting longer for updates.

The ram management is definitely not over blown for people who use the task switcher a lot... It really pisses me off how quickly TouchWiz kills apps in the background... It's not just the speed of reopening apps, multitasking can be a problem too, for example yesterday I was typing something in a forum app then I switched to chrome to get a Web link that I wanted to add to the post but by time I switched back to the forum app it had been killed in the background and I lost everything I typed. Very annoying!

6P pluses : Faster updates, Unlockable bootloader and great development support, more affordable (in the US), unlocked and works on every carrier, pure Google experience, A bit smoother UI, stereo front facing speakers, more reliable fingerprint scanner, usb 3.0 is the future but...

6P minuses: USB 3.0 is not mainstream yet so have to buy new cables, No real multitasking, some have issues with build quality, no OIS makes video taking quite shaky, can be too tall for some, S810 does throttle (that's a fact), on screen buttons take up some real estate.

Note 5 pluses: Smaller body despite same 5.7 inch display, superior display as it get brighter and dimmer, Most powerful Soc on Android, faster device especially in gaming, arguably the best camera on any smartphone with OIS on board, Spen, feature packed, true multitasking (being able to do several things at the same time like multi window), Wireless charging, more accessories available.

Note 5 minuses: TouchWiz is not for everyone, Ram management issues, slower updates especially if you're on a carrier, not root (AT&T and Verizon wireless), speaker at the bottom is good but front facing speakers are better, Glass back attracts lots of fingerprint unless you have the white model.

Now obviously there are different opinions on these two phones but as far as the pros and cons, I tried to be as objective as possible. I may have missed something so don't be mad if I did.

For me it's the Note 5, I think it is the all around superior device because of how amazing the camera is, the fact that the phone has so many features like I can browse the Web while watching a YouTube video, its smaller despite having the same size display and in fact that you get more display on the note because it does not use on screen button. One can make the OS update argument and they would be right but in 2015, its not as a good argument vs 4-5 years ago when you needed to root your phone to have the best possible performance and you had to flash a kernel to maximize battery life. Nowadays we have octa core phones that can handle anything you throw at them and we have fast charging as well as wireless charging which take care of any battery life issues. Android 6.0 is not a big departure from 5.0 and in fact things like now on tap are still pretty much in beta stage so it'll take time before it becomes fully mature. Besides having the ability to brag that I have 6.0 on my note, I don't feel like I'm missing anything from marshmallow. The note phones are receiving /have been receiving a software update that gives the doze feature, its already available on the international note 5 as well as t mobile US and Verizon I believe. So taking all this into consideration, I think the note 5 is the clear winner. Remember, there are many ways to look at it and i'm not at someone who prefers the 6P for his own reasons.

Finally, someone mentions the terrible video footage. Thanks

One of the Note 5 advantages is they manage AMOLED screen wisely against burn in - no static navigation buttons and semitransparent icons on notification bar. And because of that Note 5 screen is 0.3" bigger.
