I tried sparksd's suggestions, adaptive brightness was turned on so I turned it off. Then I cleared the cache partition, but I still have video problems and apps randomly closing. Thanks for trying to help!
I have the same setup as you and I noticed it takes a little longer to load. But it opens with the widget fully open. I love that.Strange! I received the OTA update yesterday and installed it on my 2013 Nexus 7 running Nova Launcher Prime. So far everything I have tested runs fine under 5.0. I have noticed it takes longer to boot but I have a header widget that takes a while to load. Prior to 5.0 the system would boot and then load the header; running 5.0 everything is fully loaded before the boot completes.
I also had video playback issues after an OTA update. I wiped the cache (search for nexus 7 wipe cache on forums), but I still had trouble. (MX Player and VLC crashed or hung)I tried sparksd's suggestions, adaptive brightness was turned on so I turned it off. OP, you're probably lucky you didn't install right away. I did install the Lollipop OTA and now having problems. Whenever I try to play a video, whatever app I'm using will instantly close. Also my screen will dim slightly at irregular times and then at some later time, brighten back to normal. Some apps won't start or function. Ugh.
I'm going to wait until there's a 5.01 OTA before I update. Kit Kat works just fine for me. Don't see a good enough reason to mess with good thing.
