I may be a bit late on this one but I had exactly the same issue on my nexus 7 (which I brought today) and trying to login with my ****@ntlworld.com Google account.

After hours of searching and getting no where I finally found that using the gmail email that is associated to my Google account works.
So for anyone getting this issue try using the gmail account associated with your Google account and if it's not present in your Google account then setup a gmail and associate it. and don't worry as you get to keep your custom email as primary and it still logs in as usual on all other devices

I'm running into the same issue.

I'm simply trying to connect my gmail account to my Galaxy S4, but it keeps telling me "Your username and password don't match. Try again."

However, my username and password DO match.

Now, I've created FIVE different gmail accounts, and I can't sign into any of them via Android or a web browser on the phone. But... I can sign into it and connect to it juuuust fine with a desktop/laptop or iOS device. It's super simple and smooth with an iOS device.

I've burned... 1.5 hours trying to connect to Google Gmail on a Google developed Android device so far, and I'm about 2 more minutes from returning it and getting... the cheapest, oldest iOS device I can find... since it'll work.

I've tried everything mentioned in this post. Surely, this has to be a bug.

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried changing your Google password on your computer first, then trying again to log into your Google account on your phone with this new password?

And where exactly are you encountering this login problem? Did you just receive the phone, and are trying to do the initial login to Google on your phone? Or are you trying to add another account in the Settings>Accounts>Add account​ menu?

How can I access my gmail contacts on the Nexus7? I know its there somewhere because it used to be accessible, but in the past month I can't seem to locate it. Please help.
