from what i have gathered, it is better not to use the tablet while it is charging.

so if i use a slimport to connect it a tv, it also needs to be connected to the power outlet. does that also charge the tablet at the same time?

I've never heard that before. If I'm near an outlet I'm usually plugged in, either charging or maintaining the charge. I use the tablet several hours a day, every day, with no problems using it while charging.

I would say if the power draw from the slimport is more than what the charger is giving back to the Nexus, then, in my opinion, it wouldn't be all that great for the battery, If the the Nexus charger can get it to a full charge while running the slimport, then I think that's probably healthier for the battery. I've only ran my slimport with an external battery charger and while i'm streaming a movie from my seagate wireless plus to the nexus 7 connected by the slimport to the TV, the battery percentage actually goes down, albeit slowly even with the external charger, so I guess its not providing enough power to overcome the demands of what i'm doing on the Nexus. This can't be good for the battery. I've yet to try it when its connected to a wall socket, rather than with the external battery charger, to see if it can still charge the nexus fully even though its running the slimport as well as streaming from the seagate wireless hard drive.

Again, take this all with a grain of salt. I'm not entirely sure if I'm doing no damage or some damage to the battery in the long run, but so far, I'm not seeing any signs that the battery is taking a hit from the wear and tear.

oh, yes, it is true. i talked to google playstore people, although that guy seems to tell me those things by what he read and his own personal experiences, not by what google store taught him, and the asus repair people, they all told me the same thing that it is better not to use the tablet while it is charging.

according to "battery university", it is better to shut down the tablet when it is charging.

and from what i have read, if you use it while it is charging, you will "confuse" the battery, it won't last long.

I still consider that to be total bunk. I've never had problems over the years using these while plugged in, and it hasn't hurt battery performance one bit. I've used these in my truck while on travel, plugged in and working for 12 hours a day (as GPS, movies, whatever). And I travel a lot during my work. I've used car docks with built-in charger connections on several phones, and when at work, I often use the phone while sitting in the charger.

Hogwash.

someone answered my question on amazon, "I haven't used this with a tablet, but my experience with smart phones is that not enough power is provided when plugged in to this device to both charge the smart phone battery AND display HDMI video/sound. I believe the current on the device is too low to do both. If using HDMI on a smart phone long enough, the battery will run down."

i thought that this is a good device to use, but it seems that it is bad for the battery. but on the other hand, how much of damage will it do to the tablet itself?
