Nexus 7 horrible lag/battery life

Hello. I've had my nexus 7 for less than a year now. I have been recently having some problems with extremely bad lagging and freezing. Nothing runs smooth anymore and animations are choppy (for example, opening Google chrome). Another thing is battery life. It charges super super slowly with the standard ASUS charger and with another charger of the same rating. It also sucks battery incredibly fast (about 5% every 2-3 minutes). What do?

I have some apps with important info on it (ex. Adobe Reader has important PDF's) and I can't lose those. What can I do about that?

You can't even get to "Recovery Mode" using the volume buttons to select?

Install Battery Doctor and set it to kill power hog apps.

from a BB Playbook or HP Touchpad or N7

When I get to Recovery Mode, it gives me that error.

I've never seen it say "No Command." Are you rooted? When I Google "Nexus 7 no command," a number of posts about rooting and ROMs come up.

And to answer your earlier question, you can always save the PDFs on your Nexus 7 by uploading them to Google Drive or some other cloud service. You should be able to locate those files easily with a file manager app like Total Commander or ES File Explorer. After you've backed up your important information, then you could factory reset, if you're still interested.
