Nexus 7 (Marshmallow) my files do not show up when I plug in USB on Windows 8.1

They used to show up so I could transfer photos to computer etc. but when I got the vers 6 (marshmallow) update it quit working. The device does show but when I click the files are empty.

For better or worse, when USB is connected, Marshmallow defaults to Charging. To enable file transfer and exploring, pull down the notification shade in your device when it's connected by USB, and switch it to MTP. Done.

At least for now, there doesn't appear to be a way to change this setting permanently.
