Nexus 7 never goes into deep sleep

I just briefly used the case and the problem persisted.

Closing the case the normal way turns the screen off, but folding it back to use the strap does not. Maybe there are variations in the case magnet or something is wrong inside the tablet.

Shouldn't it stay on when the case is folder back? My case, not a Poetic, does. It only shuts off when the flap over the screen is closed.

Sorry, that's what I meant to say. The screen stays on when folded back. Everyone else's seems to turn off.

It stays off when the case is closed the normal way. But if you fold the case back it stays on which doesn't seem to happen for other people. The case's magnet seems to be too strong for everyone, so the magnet actually causes the tablet to turn off when folding it back. Mine doesn't do that so now I'm wondering whether some Strapback cases have magnets that aren't too strong or whatever the magnet is supposed to effect is the cause of these wakelocks.

Just leave it out of the case while you figure out the wakelock. No sense in chasing maybes?

It was only in the case for a few hours and the battery still drained fast. I'm exchanging it with Amazon so it doesn't really matter anymore unless the next one also has the same problem. I also found a dead pixel so an exchange would be nice.

At this point I don't think it's possible to find the wakelock without rooting which would void the warranty. No matter what configuration, apps stopped/disabled/enabled, Android OS uses an inordinate amount of battery and the tablet never sleeps.
