Nexus 7: Screen Protectors?

Re: Screen Protectors?

I got the same email. That's customer service folks. I wonder what these 'practical changes' were.

I bet they got rid of the cutout for the notification LED.
I think it's great because now when I return it for warranty repair to Asus after they acknowledge the multitouch screen problem, I'll have a new screen protector to use on the new or repaired screen.

Re: Screen Protectors?

Thanks for the report! I used one from TechArmor for my husbands Nexus 7 last year with perfect results, but have not seen any yet from that company for the new model.

+1 for TechArmor. I used their screen protector on my Galaxy S4 and it went on really well. No trouble or screen distortion either. I actually emailed the company to ask if/when they would have a product ready for the 2nd gen. Nexus 7 and they responded that they would have something ready by the end of this week. I think I will hold out and wait until TechArmor has them available to ship.

I also ordered Tech Armor protectors for my new Nexus 7 because I was impressed with how they held up on my GS3. I also tweeted the company and they sent me an email as well about pre-ordering. I got mine yesterday and applied it immediately no problems.

Re: Screen Protectors?

How do you like the Nex7 II? I'm thinking of switching over from Galaxy Note 10.1 but hesitant because of the money loss from selling it.

Who is this directed to? Me or someone else?

Re: Screen Protectors?

Zeph.... I am assuming you have the new Nex7 by your post.

From me to you!

I like it so far except when the WiFi crapped out on me and I had to do a factory reset to get it back. I really like the case and screen protector I have on it as well as how much lighter and faster it is compared to the 1st gen.

Re: Screen Protectors?

I just got up my nerve and put the iLLumiSheild screen protector on my Nexus 7. I ended up with a perfect install, but it was a little more troublesome than the TechArmor one I did for hubby's Nexus 7 last year. I guess it remains to be seen how it holds up and performs, but seems decent so far.

There are two cut outs at the top, none for the notification light at the bottom, so I'm happy about that! Kind of fussy about how my devices look.

Anyway, happy to have something on the screen, I live in a dusty windy area. And if any of the cats should join me in a game of Fruit Ninja, I'm prepared.

Re: Screen Protectors?

I use Bodyguardz on all of my products - on my Nexus 7 I have the Hd - their Anti finger Anti Glare print matte feel one - its okay for the moment, there is a bit of screen blur as a result of the anti gare and finger print coating.

Generally they sell them in single packs - I was able to receive 3 for the price of 1 - a gift from them for submitting a bug I found in their order process.

Wow, I had a very different experience. If you want, you can read my review here: Amazon.com : Tech Armor Nexus 7 (2nd GENERATION) Tablet Premium High Definition (HD) Clear Screen Protector with Lifetime Replacement Warranty [3-PACK] - Retail Packaging : Computers & Accessories

I think the tolerance on the Tech Armor is just a bit too tight. At least that was the case for the ones I had. It was very difficult (at least for me) to find a reference point to align the protector properly. I actually just "tested" with the first one knowing it would get messed up. On the 2nd one, I went side-to-side instead of top-to-bottom and that went much better (albeit still challenging). And even now, 2 small areas on opposite corners are raised a bit because the protector is overlapping the "lip". And I'm certain I can't get it anymore aligned so I just left it since the case I have it in hides the lifted portions.

I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with your Tech Armor Screen Protectors. I was able to successfully install mine with no problems whatsoever. I was just extremely careful when lining up the edges so as to avoid the problem you experienced with the protector overlapping onto the sides. At least the case you have is able to cover the lifted portions.

Re: Screen Protectors?

I've always used Brando (from 100 devices, 85 had Brando on it, 2 Spigen, the rest Exim), on the iPad Mini it really fits 100%. But that's a problem most of the time. On the iPad I got it on perfectly and you can't even see the screen protector but on many devices it's just a little too big (to close to real display dimensions) to get it on perfectly.

I got a Spigen Steinheil Ultra Chrystal for a SG Note 2 a short time agao for the first time and it wasn't as tight and didn't fit as good as a Brando but I also had less/no problem putting it on the display. No scratches, no dust, nothing. So I think for the Nexus 7, if I keep it, I'm going to get a Spigen UC, but I'm not sure because here in Germany both, Brando and Spigen, aren't available for the Nexus 7 2013. But you get Brando protectors almost everywhere, Spigen only for the bestselling devices like SGN or SGS.

Re: Screen Protectors?

I also couldn't wait to get a screen protector on it because of the slipperiness of the glass. I got the SPG too. It adds the perfect amount of grippiness and helps reduce the glitches in the touch sensor problem.

This is an update to my original post.
This screen protector ( Spigen Steinheil Ultra Chrystal) reduced my touch sensitivity so much that I had to remove it.
When this was installed, I had to use my other hand to ground the glass in order for the touch to register.

I still hate the slick feel of the bare screen due to problems with long presses and drag and drop functions, so I'm looking for a different brand.

Re: Screen Protectors?

I need to use my new N 7 outside for inspections. Can anyone recommend a screen protector to reduce glare?
Thanks

Re: Screen Protectors?

I can't beleive no one has mentioned Phantom Skinz. It's all I use on my devices when they require a screen protector. I decided to just order a case for now for my Nexus 7 but if I don't like it then I will get the Phantom Skinz Chromatics.

I don't know about other type of screen, but on the capacitive screen with armor suite shield screen protector, my stylus glides across the screen effortlessly. It almost feel like writing with pen and paper.

If the screen protector is causing your stylus to not function normally, sometime it makes a difference to invest in a good stylus.
