Why is the nexus 7 faster than the nexus 4? I benched the stock nexuses and I got a score of 19000+ with the nexus 7 and 15000+ with the nexus 4 using Antutu. They have virtually the same hardware.

The 7 has Krait 300 cores, whilst the N4 uses Krait 200 IIRC. It might be 400 and 300, though, not sure.

Either way, it's because the N7's CPU uses later/higher end cores.

the benchmark app tally's up more than just the CPU/GPU in its final numbers.

here's some notable difference between the nexus4 vs 7

memory
n4: ddr2
n7: ddr3
(ddr3 is faster and more energy efficient)

cpu
n4: krait 200
n7: krait 300
(there's quite a few differences between the two feature and instruction set and parallel processing wise, it's simply faster and more energy efficient)

storage transfer rates are also much faster in the nexus 7.

all of that combined, provides a better score.

since system memory is used by the GPU, it's nowhere near what desktop graphics card can deliver in terms of bandwidth. but ddr3 is going to make a difference over ddr2 in graphics programs just because of the extra bandwidth. so even though they both have adreno 320 GPU's, the GPU in the nexus 7 will perform better due to the krait 300 cores and ddr3 memory and faster storage transfer rates. but this may not always be the entire case since the nexus 7 has a 1920x1200 screen while the nexus 4 has a much smaller resolution to drive. it really depends on what resources each graphics program requires, whether it's more CPU power or more memory bandwidth.

regardless though, the nexus 7 is one of the most capable devices on the market, able to handle all existing apps and games. most things faster than the nexus 7 (by say 30% or so) cost 200% as much or more.
