First post here.

I purchased a nexus 7 a couple weeks ago at Amazon. Opened the box, powered up and started to play around but the touch screen was hit or miss Tried for another couple days, even factory reset it but the touch screen still was flukey. Sent back to amazon. Ordered another when they became available (32g) and it arrived today. Opened the box and pressed power button but nothing. Put on charger for several hours and tried again. Still nothing.

Am I missing something?

Welcome to Android Central!

It looks like you're the victim of some nefarious luck, unfortunately. I would send it back, and after 2 such experiences would probably look towards another device. Perhaps a Galaxy Tab 3 8.0? However, you may be feeling forgiving and want to give yet another Nexus 7 a shot. You shouldn't have to do anything straight out of the box except setup and enjoy the device. Especially one that costs over $200US.

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something simple...
Back it goes. Will probably try another, really like the size and screen.

Good luck! You may want to try a different resaler, the one you've gotten these two from may have gotten a bad batch. You may want to even try a local retailer, like Best Buy, Staples, etc. so returns are even simpler.

Is it possibly something as simple as holding the power button down for about 20 seconds until the Google logo appears?

For the new units, if they don't turn on right away, give it a good charge and then try again. If a simple button press does not turn it on, try holding the power button down while it's charging for about 20-30 seconds to try and force it on. If the battery died while still in the packaging, a good long charge will be needed and sometimes it has to be forced on by holding the power button.

Thanks all. I held power button from a few seconds to about 30 Mississippi. Charged for about 6 hours. Nothing. On its way back to amazon. Picked one up at TigerDirect. Ahh it works! Now to figure it out (coming from Ipad)
