Nexus 7 tablet has poor build quality.

Mine's perfect so far.

I thought my C80 build was perfect until I started checking for screen lift.

It looks OK but if pressed on the left side near the bottom the screen goes blue and creaks.

It's going back.

When and where did you get it? You have absolutely ZERO screen lift at all?

OK, I stand corrected--there's an infinitesimal lift on the left that has been completely inconsequential.

I thought mine was inconsequential, until it got worse after using it a lot. Then you run the risk of cracking the screen under pressure, which isn't covered under warranty. That's not good. And really is a problem that shouldn't exist.

I'm not bashing the tablet itself, I absolutely loved it, but I worried about that issue that shouldn't be there.

This thread and the ones re: WIFI performance have deterred me thus far.
I have in my hands a via 8850 unit put out by the nondescript AGPTek, an outfit that best I can tell never made a remarkable device so they may be selling rather than making it.. but at any rate, it is a substantial unit - sturdy, not exactly 'sleek' but feels like you could use it in a bar fight.
maybe the problem with ASUS in regard to the 7 has more to do with an edgy design that misfired in terms of build-ability ??? I mean, part of the QA process for those few companies intent on hitting the highest standards is that you have to design-to-the-quality-goal, and the end product must be buildable by ordinary humans.

In this regard I'm very interested to see the quality of the Nexus 4 handset by LG. My view of LG is that it is a first-class outfit, quality-wise. we shall see.

While LG has certainly come a long way, I don't think I would yet class them as first rate quality.

They used to be synonymous with "cheap junk"

LG = Lucky Goldstar, previously known as Goldstar.

Goldstar - there's a name from the past. Also there were adds for tv's etc by "famous maker"

Yeah, but companies improve over time. Case in point: Hyundai.

Please give me some advice.

I purchased a 32GB Nexus from Google. Noticed the Glass was raised over the bezel and returned it immediately. Went to Gamestop to get a new one. On this one, the glass is slightly raised on the right side as compared to the left sibut it doesnt seem to be causing any issues. Unfortunately, I noticed a slight separation of the glass on both sides from the bezel. Not sure of this is normal. I didn't see it on any other devices in Gamestop, Staples or on my brothers 8 GB version. I can still exchange it but am scared I'll get one with worse problems.

I don't get it, my wife and I bought ours on day two of release and have NO problems. Zero, ziltch, nada problems, we love ours and use it almost daily.

I experienced screen lift with a 10'' Asus Transformer and a Nexus 7 so far. I actually exchanged the Transformer for the Nexus (32GB), but the problem was even worse. I have to return the Nexus tomorrow and I must admit that my confidence in Asus has truly been compromised :-\ (reading this doesn't exactly help either!). Thinking of going with the iPad Mini, but not sure yet because I resent having to pay for most apps and not being able to browse flash sites. Also tempted to roll the dice one last time with the Nexus 7, but not confident about the result. Any suggestions?

Why not try a Samsung Galaxy Tab or Note?

it just seems weird to me that on the left side the box on top casts no shadow .

Lol that box is defective that's why it doesn't cast a shadow but seriously people fixing the screen lift issue is sooooo easy just take a guitar pic and shove it into the speaker hole down towards the USB and once it pops up run the pick around the edge under the cover and it pops off then use a Phillips head screw driver to tighten all of the screws down and you're done I did this with mine to ensure that I never had the screen lift issue otherwise this is a great device I'm a happy customer and will vouch for this tablet 10 times over plus I know someone else who absolutely loves theirs and has had no problems whatsoever with it

LOL... all Korean companies started out making cheap junk. Before that, it was Taiwan and China, and before that it was Japan. Now-a-days, everything you use depends on components manufactured in those countries. Not all of them are designed there, but they're made there because we don't want to build things anymore.

IMO, it's not that we don't want to build things anymore, it's that too much government regulation, "big labor", high taxes, and generally higher costs of production make our production more expensive. You should look into the grim facts in detail some time ! It would curdle your breakfast fersure.
