Nexus 7 v iPad Mini 2?

Ultimately it just depends on user preference. On paper I would give the edge to nexus 7, but that's not everything. Some people are going to prefer iOS to Android and won't be able to compromise ecosystem. Also, it depends on if you want a 7inch vs 8inch. I have owned an iPad 3 and currently own a nexus 7 2013 and I have come to find out I really like Android more and even if Apple has better "looking" apps, the aesthetic side of Android apps had made huge progression over even the past 18 months. All in all my vote currently rests with android.

What I'm really impressed about with the new Nexus 7 is battery life. Had it since saturday, played around quite a lot (had to install apps, used them, played around a lot) and it's still at an amazing 40% after two days.
The iPad Mini, esp with iOS7 on it, has much worse battery life. And i don't think it will get better with the new retina. Yeah, it has a bigger battery in it but it now has the retina display which consumes a lot more battery and it has a much more powerful processor. So I guess Nexus 7 is the way to go when it comes to battery life and price.
Just have to test how reading magazines is on it with the 16:9 display, meaning an even smaller display like 6 inch available for reading because of the black balk on top and bottom, around 2 inch less display available than on the Mini...

So big pros really are battery life and price.

And I'm still looking for a browser like iOS Safari which comes close to a desktop browser. I want my favorites bar on top.
Maxthon is nice but still not what I'm looking for. I like chrome on Mac OS but not on Android.
And anyone knows a good email app?
Don't like the preinstalled one that much (not using gmail nor the gmail app, only the normal email app). On iOS you have the combination view of all email accounts at start, here you always have to switch to "all accounts view" after starting the email app (starts with main email account).

for $400 ipad mini is too expensive. I thought Apple would release mini with retina for $329 and it would be difficult to choose between mini or N7.

with lower price and spec matching mini N7 is the clear winner

If you thought that Apple would release a Retina Mini and drop the price $70, you haven't been paying all that much attention to Apple. Because they have this hard core user base that will basically buy anything with their logo on it, they do not need to drop prices. Apple is never going to try to compete financially with Nexus 7 or other tablets of the sort because they do not have to. Not a popular opinion I know, but at least for the time being, you say tablet and a huge chunk of people assume you mean iPad.

The iPad is overpriced but not by as much as people say, you get a premium aluminum body with minimal bezels in comparison to soft touch plastic with huge bezels and multiple quality control issues.

Im not saying the nexus 7 is ugly but the design is nothing to write home about and the touchscreen issue should not be happening. No matter how cheap the device Google releases they should not skimp on vital components.

If only I could have an iPad Mini 2 / Air running kitkat....
