Nexus 7 Volume all the way up and very little sound

When I first got my N7, I found the speaker volume very poor, and this was way before 4.2 I installed a sound enhancer and it helped, but the sound enhancer actually blew my speakers! This was a known flaw in the early builds of the N7. I called Google, as I had purchase my N7 through the Play Store, and they sent me a new tablet, which has worked flawlessly since I've had it......I have upgraded to the latest version of Jellybean, and haven't had any sound issues at all....like I said, the volume/speaker issues were a common problem in the earlier builds of the N7.

OK. I'm new here so I hope no one pummels me for any overreaching here....but....
The issue is the same on both my first nexus 7 a 16gb variety, and my new 32gb version AND my nexus 4.

The issue is not a hardware problem I don't believe. Google is playing our mommy. They want to protect our hearing by regulating either wattage to the speaker or by some other means. Listen carefully to your volume level at half measure. Now listen as you go past half way All the way to full. Didn't notice it change did you? That because if it did it was imperceptible to most of us. The max level is half volume and it is to "protect our hearing" and is done " for our benefit" I am sure they will claim. One device yes an issue. But three all doing exactly the same thing? Nope. Its on purpose. Still love the devices but its my observation.

I was stumped trying to figure out why my Nexus 7 suddenly stopped letting me increase my volume over the maximum (safety) setting level. The slider in the volume settings would work fine without headphones plugged in. When headphones were plugged in, I could not increase above that maximum level.

At first, I thought it might be the latest Jellybean/Android update. Then I thought it might be a problem with my headphone jack or headphones because the problem would only appear when my headphones are plugged in. Also on Netflix and other apps, I wasn't able to increase my volume above the preset when headphones were plugged in.

I researched like many of you with a similar problem, I thought I might have to reset to factory settings and risk losing all of my apps and settings. Fortunately, I thought I to try increasing the volume using the +/- buttons.

Voila. Even with headphones plugged in, the volume increased above the maximum and I was back to being able to use higher volume on all of my apps. Just one of those great examples of how trying a few random things solves the problem. I still think it was due to the jellybean update but hopefully this will help others before you do a reset or try serious fixes. Hope that does it.

i have a problem with audio while i m using headphones, the sound is very slow, would you like to tell what might be the problem please?

I have the same problem and have tried everything to fix it to now avail. I am to the point of trading it in for a Kindle HD or Samsung at this time. Very strange that such a good tablet would have such poor sound and all the reviewers would not mention it in their reviews.

My sound has been working fine for the last year, and now after the latest upgrade to 4.3 I get the issue where my volume sucks when I plug in headphones. The volume is stuck at '7', and I can only decrease it from there, I can't increase it. If I unplug my headphones...it's fine.
I noticed this in MX player, so I tried changing the master volume from settings but to no avail. I change the volume to say '15' in mx player and the sound does not increase, and when I go to change the volume again I see it's still at 7.

what crap...I hate OTA sometimes....if it aint broke, don't fix it

I had the same volume problems with Nexus 7, I also had very little volume whilst wearing headphones also. In my case I managed to work out that the problem only started after having downloaded a game called 'Despicable Me, minion Rush', I uninstalled it and was relieved to discover that this cured the problem. So if you have this problem try uninstalling any recently downloaded apps that you think might be causing a conflict. Hope this works for you as well. ::D

I had the same problem I just went to settings, sounds and volume and pushed everything to Max, then come back to home screen and turned the volume up you get a safety warning about loud volume can mess you up but ignore and you should have louder headphones.

i face the same problem on my new nexus 7 today ,
finally i found ,when you play videos ,you can HOLDING to press the volume + hard button ,then it's will bounce a notify to remind you big volume would harm your ear .you can just select OK ,you will found the volume can increase now .
hope above can fix your problem also .thanks!

it's a hardware issue. i have it too. it's like the cap or fuse is blown for the base/main sound, but the tweet is still working and that's why you can still hear something.
tbh, and it's best to be. mine was stood on. after that it worked fine for about about a week, but later the sound went. now i know it's painful but ask yourself if you sat on it or maybe someone else did. it may not look like a hardware issue, the update may have been the trigger. tbh i think it may be a cheap fix, but we need to find the problem before we push blame. everything works but the sound is really low, even distorted when up to the max. i have a pc and a laptop so it's not a big issue for me but i can see this as a really big issue for people that have only got a nexus. but pushing blame on this issue will only lead to walls been put up. i have not seen one comment on here saying that they understand the problem, i only see people pushing blame, however i do understand this, as i too was thinking that it was googles fault, but it did get stood on (not by me) and it is the same issue you guys are having, so can we not work forward and fix this issue?i'm going to have a see into mine soon and check the caps and such, i really hope i find the problem. but i'm not that good.

Sometimes even with the volume in the highest level, it still sounds very slight. In this case, I usually increase the sound volume by Faasoft Volume Booster. With it, you can adjust audio or video volume as your desire.

Happy with it.
