Nexus 7 vs Gtab 7.7 ... Returning the Nexus.

You have touchwiz. Enough said. I love touchwiz on the GS3 and don't mind it on the GS2, but touchwiz is complete and utter garbage on Samsung Tablets. Plus, you wont see Jellybean for months. Then after you get Jellybean you simply will never see what comes after because Samsung will and always does drop support for phones after one major update. Asus build quality for exceeds that of all the Samsung tablets I've owned. I don't knock SuperAMOLED + because that screen tech is the best out there. And if your buying a tablet today, your getting straight ripped off paying $500 for a skinned ICS 7" tablet.

Lol that all being said, if you already have a 7.7, its definitely a waste to buy another 7".
im with u. i HATED touchwiz on my galaxy tab (original)

At one time it was an improvement. I had a 10.1 that launched with stock honeycomb. Touchwhiz added alot of missing features back then. Now it just adds alot of bloat. That's what custom roms are for though.

Because prior to last week the 7.7 was stuck on Honeycomb with no custom rom support to speak of and because the promise of quad core and jellybean on a Nexus was enticing. However it just didn't pan out to be much of an upgrade if at all since many categories were downgrades.

Hmmm I was a VzW Xoom owner so I know what that is like.

Thanks to this thread ( and another forum re: android tablets ) I am getting 2x tab 7.7s tomorrow and not the nexus.

On this other forum 37% of 16gb nexus owners had to rma within days...some have even had mutiple replacements. 17% of 8gb nexus 7 owners also had to rma.

For starters...specs are irrelevant first and foremost when you have failure rates of over 30%...

Secondly I've never seen a tablet wuth as good a screen quality as he tab 7.7.

In my in store testing of an ICS 7.7 vs the nexus 7 they felt juat as snapping as each other when opening tabs and apps, or switching between homescreen pages.

The synergy with my galaxy s2 was also another reason as a result of my familiarity with the touchwiz interface.

It was clear from holding the nexus that it was made with cheap materials and its ips screen looked like a tft acreen with low contrast and colour saturation.

For my needs ( NAS music playback control, youtube streaming, and pdf reading ) I doubt here would be any differnce in speed

In my opinion the Grab 7.7 screen is over done. The Gnex screen seems more organic in color. I love the super rich screen on the gnex. But on anything over five its just too much for me. Also, having the smoothest experience is more important to me than ui customizations. Also updates for the life of device are important to me. The feel of this device are above average as well.

I decided to get a 7.7 to compare myself. My Nexus 7 is on a stock rom but OC'd to 1.6. I loaded the 7.7 with CM9 since it was the smoothest experience out of the other roms I loaded. I like the Nexus's form factor a lot. It definitely is easier to hold over a long period of time as the thickness of it doesn't dig into my finger tips as opposed to the 7.7. Chrome is very smooth and fast on it; no lag whatsoever. I also loaded the JB stock browser which is fast itself as well. The only thing I don't like is the screen saturation. I'd like to have a little bit more, but I've always felt that way about Asus vs Samsung tablets.

As for the 7.7, it's very smooth and responsive on CM9. Actually very close to my Nexus 7 and probably wouldn't notice if not side by side. I personally like the oversaturated colors, probably because I'm color blind. It's actually quite the difference in form factor even though it's only .5" wider than the Nexus. Chrome on the 7.7 is very laggy though but I use ICS Browser+ which was perfect for me. Screen of course is gorgeous. The 7 is just a hair sharper due to PPI when surfing and doing text based things, but when comparing movies side by side the Samsung was more detailed as the Nexus' whites are way over done. Nexus also has a wider range in brightness. It's darker than the 7.7 when both are on the lowest setting and brighter when both are on the highest. Black levels don't compare though; the Samsung has the Nexus beat.

I really do love and will probably keep both and just switch between them depending on how I feel.... until Samsung hopefully officially announces this supposed 11.8" P10 with a 2560x1600 display that was found in one of the court documents today.
