Nexus Folders/Files Question

I'm trying to create a folder on my N7 to use with MobileNoter. I got an app called Android File Manager and created a folder, but when I connect to my Win7 PC I see all the folders except the one I created.

On the PC the folders are under "Nexus>Internal Storage" and in on the N7 AFM they are under "/storage/sdcard0".

Anybody know how to make a new folder on the N7 that I can get to on my PC?

Thanks in advance for any help.

This is a reply to "zedorda". (I got an email message that there was a reply to my question but for some reason it doesn't show in the thread.)

"zedorda" asked:

Which kind of folder are you talking about? The homescreen folder with icons? Or a directory within the file system through a File manager?

First, thanks for your reply.

I'm not quite sure I understand how to answer your question but here goes: When I start Android File Manager on my Nexus I see a list of 13 folders/directories under "/storage/sdcard0". I had used the Add Folder option to create a folder called "MobileNoter Files".

When I connect the Nexus to my PC with the USB cable and open Windows Explorer, under Computer there appears a "Nexus 7" entry (as if were an additional drive). Under that is a single entry "Internal storage" with 11 entries, all of which match the ones I see on the Nexus AFM screen. (The 12th, which I don't see with Windows Explorer but I do see on the Nexus AFM is named "Sygic" which I assume got created when I installed that mapping program a couple of days ago.)

Under Windows Explorer I don't have an option to create a new folder like I have for, say, a regular disk drive. Could there be some Nexus or Win7 option that's blocking me from changing file structures?

Do you have the Nexus unlocked?

It won't allow me to make changes unless its unlocked at the time.

You should be able to. I have made many folders already using Win7

When you say "unlocked" do you mean something other than having the Home screen visible? (I looked through the settings and other than under Developer Options, which is Off, I don't see any other types of locks.) I haven't got any passwords or anything like that set up.

yeah thats what I meant. Like when I plug in my Nexus it won't be visable until I unlock it on the home screen(Type in my password to use my nexus).

So you can see the Nexus there and see all the folders that are already made?

It seems that something is disabled. Someone with more Android experience might be able to help.

I'm also assuming you are a local administrator on your Windows 7 machine? Like this is a home PC that you have full rights to?

Honestly I can make folders and didn't make any changes to my Nexus allowing me to do so.

Makes me think this is coming down to a rights/permissions issue in Win7.

But perhaps I turned something on my Nexus without realizing. Isn't there a USB spot in settings?

That can't be true. I tried it on two different W7 machines with the same result. My Android phone with ICS has no problem making folders on the same machines, so it HAS to be a N7 problem. Something is different on this tablet!!

I found an option under Settings/Storage/Options/USB computer connection to select "Camera(PTP)" as opposed to "Media devices (MTP)" but when I change it (and then back), although I see different folders in Win7, I still don't get a Create folder option.

(And yes, I am the Administrator of this PC.)

What I really liked about Android was that you could make folders and drag and drop files to them from your computer. I guess not anymore. With Astro File Manager I can make new folders, but they will not show up on my computer.

I just posted the same question to the good folks over at XDA - it looks like someone over there's having a similar problem. There's also a thread about updating the USB driver but I checked and mine is up to date.

I rebooted my Nexus and I now can see the new folder in Windows Explorer (and copy files to it.) Still can't create folders however.

Under Settings/Developer options is USB debugging checked? If not check it and try again.

The only thing I have done to mine from stock was to unlock the bootloader so that might be needed. I did not root.

OK,I am fully stock! What you do is go to my computer double click on nexus7 storage device, then you will see a window with all the folders inside it which is all your content folders, all you do is right click your mouse just like you would on your desktop on the PC and choose create a folder.I have created 5 or 6 folders doing this same process and I have not done any modifications to my tablet at all.It works just like the PC creating a folder and if it works on one tablet it should work on all tablets.I could understand if I was rooted but I'm not.Hope you get it figured out.:-\

Drag together groups of apk's you have istalled. They will combine, there you can name the group. Now you have made a folder and given a name,

Enjoy!
