It's possible.. I have a launcher2.apk file that you install and when you hit the Home button it allows you to easily run the stock 2.2

I can email it, just need a PM with an email address.

Or run the launcher2.apk file I have, it allows you to run the stock 2.2 UI on any phone.

I've tried it on multiple phones upgraded to 2.2 and it works great.

Or download adw.Launcher or launcher pro from the market. Both are free and don't require root. But if you root your phone you won't regret it, especially if you get in to downloading custom roms from xda.
