Is the nexus phone line going to come back to CDMA networks?

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

Will the current N4 be able to use CDMA networks? No. It's a GSM phone. Will they release a later N4 that works on CDMA? Who knows...that would be a pure guessing game. My guess is that they wont. I think Google likes having one phone with no different models to mess with for updating. Will there ever be another Nexus device (like a N5 or N6) that works on CDMA? Who knows? Regarding technology, I find it best to live in the present. The future has too many unknown options with unknown time tables. All you end up doing is constantly waiting for what is rumored to come out next.

As far as the N4 on GSM goes, I've been a dedicated Verizon (and before that, Air Touch Cellular) customer for over 20 years. Leaving them for this particular GSM phone has been the best tech decision I've made since dropping Outlook for Gmail a few years ago. The N4 runs better and faster (on Tmobile's $30/month plan) than any phone I've ever owned.

I still think there's a possibility of a CDMA/Sprint version come late Spring (say, May), but that's based simply on past history. Maybe we'll find out more at MWC.

not now. i think the best course of action would be for google to let the nexus brand grow (i.e. stick with the unlocked GSM phone). once the brand gets big enough, google gets more power when negotiating with carriers like verizon and sprint so hopefully google can get its way like apple did. nexus just has to be big first. my $0.02.

Unlocked is fully the way to go.

$30 per month for Unlimited Text and Web (No throttling till 5GB) + 100 anytime minutes.
$2.50 per month for Unlimited calling to US and Canada from Skype.

Unlimited everything, only $35 per month after taxes. Cannot beat that.

I sure hope not!

Verizon was the worst thing to ever happen to a Nexus phone. They are Nazis and incredibly slow with updates, if at all, and let's not even start talking about the bloatware!

Google seems to have learned a lesson and won't be doing business with Verizon again anytime soon. Thank God!

If history is any indicator there will be a Sprint version sometime this spring. Hopefully there will be a Verizon version as well but that's a big question mark at this point.

Only if you actually get good T-Mobile service ... A lot of us don't

Thanks for the input guys! I really love my nexus 7 and pure Android. I like it so much I would like to have it on my next phone. I guess I will have to end my contract with Sprint and switch to a GSM network. Yes Sprint has the Galaxy nexus, but I want the newest model.

If your not dying to switch phones and carriers, I would wait a bit. Especially if you have good coverage now.

Remember there is more to the worldwide cell carrier market than Verizon and the demand for the Nexus 4 in Europe proves that.

The demand in Europe has just as much to do with the low cost compared to other high end smartphones as anything else.

And as for the importance of the US market yes its only one part of the world but its the main thing the media seems to look at. Just look at all the doom and gloom stories about RIM despite BlackBerry sales remaining strong internationally and even growing in some markets. They actually gained 1.8 million subscribers last quarter and yet the media had them practically put of business. The US is all they focus on.

I poked my head over on crackberry today, they are a rabid bunch. I hope BB stays in business as more than a software company, but I still wonder.

If Android or iPhones ever get a totally secure seal of approval from the US government, they will be sunk.

Don't think it will happen though since the backend won't ever get there.

True however I could see a company or the government creating a secure back end system that uses a customized version of Android for client handsets.
