just got my galaxy nexus and loving it so far except for one majorrrrrr issue....ive just been at home so far today and i cant get any reception except for a few areas ill pick up one maybe two bars at the most and its killing my battery..

is the radio in the gsm nexus just really weak or is there a phone problem here? i had a galaxy s2 before this for at&t and i never had great signal while at my house it was always relatively weak, solid two bars but i hardly ever lost signal for 10-15 mins at a time with that phone like i do with the nexus....since their both samsung phones shouldn't they have the same reception, same radio?

Hi, I have the same problem, I exchanged my Nexus twice, I believe that it's just the radios that Samsung uses in their phones, had the same problem with my first galaxy in Sprint also. I did go into an AT&T store and ask them, buy their answer was they don't support that phone, I would still say that for the most part, my phone is usable, I just have to keep it sitting near a window at home not to lose cell signal.

That's too bad, I never had a issue with the GSM version. When i had the Verizon version, the signal was always low in my home and, I never got LTE there. I could always make a calls

so the phones not broken then, just crappy radios on samsungs part? i thought it would be the same as my s2 but i guess not :/

I've heard of these problems with the Verizon model but, not as much with the GSM. In my experience, one thing I do notice is, it seems to perform better on T-mobile than At&t.

The internet speed is stronger on T-mobile as well as the signal strength in my area.

I've also read that the S2 does have better radios. I've never had a S2 so I don't know.

What build?
Mine was 4.02 until I flashed it to the Google American 4.04. My perception is it cleared up a bug with my signal strength going grey, then H, then 3g, etc. It's been stable ever since and I get great call quality and dl speed with my Tmo prepaid $30. Instructions on flashing are on the web but back it up first or you could lose stuff. Sounds harder to do than it really is. So far my signal is better on Tmo than Att. 2 mos....

4.0.2 and 4.0.4 are Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS versions, not basebands. They are also not regionally different, at least not for GSM Nexuses. If you go to Settings>About Phone and scroll to "Baseband version" you'll see the last 5 characters begin with XX. This indicates a European baseband; North American basebands generally start with UG.

The gsm galaxy nexus definitely has a weaker radio. I'm a lefty and have had to train myself to avoid covering the antenna (lower left of phone) which has helped. I tried t-mobile for a month (really wanted that $30 plan), but it didn't work for me. I could use wifi calling but even texting had to be wifi based. I had 0% signal in my house most of the time. I'm on straight talk at&t now. I still have a poor signal in my house but can do regular texts. I've been traveling through ga, sc, va, wv, and pa since sunday and am pleased to always have voice reception. I've always had data but really remote areas dropped to edge speed. Frankly, I'm amazed at how often I get H speed.
I haven't tried flashing another radio. I haven't unlocked or rooted, either. I set up adb and flashboot but decided to wait for JB. Now, I'm thinking I should have pushed the button before my travels. Oh well.
I think it's worth giving t-mobile a try. I paid $2 for sim card (+shipping directly from t-mob) and $30. I held off porting my sprint number during the trial month.
