I love my Nexus S and I want my wife to get one too and she is up for an upgrade with T-Mobile. The issue is that the Nexus S is $250 with taxes and the Vibrant is up for free with her current upgrade. Can some of you extremely opinionated and helpful people please give me some insight on whether she would be happy with the Vibrant or will she always be comparing to my phone. I know they are similar but does the NFC capability and the Gingerbread OS make that big of a difference. I want her to be happy and have a phone she loves, not just settle. Is the UI similar? Does YouTube and web browsing work the same on both phones?

Your prompt response would be much appreciated into this matter.

Thanks in advance.

What does she use her phone for? If she's an average user, the Vibrant should be fine. Its exactly the same as the Nexus S, without NFC and some other features, but with TouchWiz and a different body.

Wait for the same "Vibrant" 4G to be released again by failedSamsung then you can upgrade. TMo always has those BS for now let her play with your NS and see if she likes it. Now Vibrant didn't actually have nice rep and Samsung didn't help the users on that matter. If she is not technical then skip both NS/Vibrant(truly nightmare with the fix you need to do) and go with G2/MT4G as they are good to go out of box.

My 2cents is G2 is also free ATM and over Vibrant is even better improvement and hell its 800mhz native max mCPU scaled to around 1.8-1.9ghz ya I said 1.9ghz from 800mhz native clock freq :P and Adreno 205 GPU on 2G Snap SoC OCed gives around 60-63fps now that impressive. It also has hardware KB which is nice but its kind of clumsy TBH but best hardware KB I seen, so it might be useful to her you know how girls like those Sidekick type devices.

In the end decision is yours but you gave us permission to be opinionated :P so I am sharing my 2cents with you. Also I know she may not be in to the rooting/flashing/OCing lol but hell you never know you just might snatch it from her when it arrives.

Has she used your phone and does she like it? If she's been using the Nexus S, she might find the TouchWiz too weird.

I would wait for the new 4G Vibrant or whatever they'll call it if you decide against the Nexus, as the 4G Vibrant will have the front facing camera.

If you or she travel alot, that could be a neat feature to have. (Software is not so good right now, but here's to hoping that will improve).

If she's a fairly technical user, I would probably get the Nexus, as it will remain up-to-date versus the carrier phones. Ignore the flames against Samsung; the phones are good. They're just last to get OS upgrades. The average user really won't care.

wait for a few of the phones coming out if she doesnt like the nexus s but remember it will get more updates

I second looking at the myTouch. It isn't free, but its a helluva lot better deal than the Vibrant. The hardware is rock solid and the software, even with Sense, is better than anything Samsung could ever muster.

That would be better as currently MT4G and DHD are the top superior AOSP phone on market. I know I am in NS forum but if any fanboy want to go with the run down please be advised you better have full understanding about Hummingbird and Snapdragon in hardware and software level.

i know you want to go with best deal but getting her the right phone will save you money down the road.

cheapest: vibrant
most updates: nexus S
best all around: mt4g/nexus s
keyboard:G2

all depends on her needs go to a store and have her play with the my touch 4g and g2

all the devices are to the point now where any basic user can use them no problem without any real issues. Power users will always want the latest so mytouch 4g or nexus S would be one of my picks.

The nexus s will be worth more when its time to trade in or sell. But the vibrant is a very good phone.

I agree wait for Vibrant 4g it might have some signicant improvement software wise and maybe some two people on the planet could finally use the ffc to actually talk and not just brag.
