Nexus S'ers, What Do You Think of The ICS Video Leak?

this isnt the real thing... not convinced at all... doesnt line up with information from other, more reliable sources

there is a lot of hype for this update, as there always is i guess, but i suspect more of a honeycomb looking update

I was expecting more from Mathias Duarte.

Me too. Very disappointed here. Either Duarte had less to do with WebOS than we thought or Google's not giving him any power in design decisions.

Yeah, I am starting to think that maybe he didn't either. Google, hire some of these webOS guys that are looking for work, pretty up Android some!

I really enjoyed it, and i think it was real.
According to the xda thread, they had two phones just like this sold by the seller.
Sadly a user got it who didn't know too much.

I can bet google did wipe it, just like apple did, this is their baby and they aren't messing around.

Personally I don't understand why he didn't wipe the device aka factory wipe it, and start with your own account.
Otherwise I would have left it in airplane mode and seek the help of a advanced dev to dump the device, then use it after.

Now we are seeing evidence it is real. Ice Cream Sandwich video surfaces online; developers confirm authenticity | Android and Me

I've been following that thread they mention since the beginning. And, while I'm not out to call anyone over there a liar in what they found: I don't think it should be reported as "news" with no evidence shown to everyone else. (Not that most people would be able to tell the difference.) It's all hearsay over there right now and everyone is really confused except for the people who were "involved" and all they are saying it's it's legit.

Under the assumption that it is legit: who knows if it's even a legit build close to what the final release will be. IE, they started making that draft then dumped it cause it sucked.

Whether it is or it isn't I hope that's not what if FINALLY looks like. Can't speak for background performances.

After more reading, i do believe this is real,
If you look at any of the other ics leaks, its basically the exact same.

The device was remotely wiped by someone, who knows who, but probably google.

A partial dump was taken, but the system was completely wiped.

They posted picture proof of the kernel and such further confirming it is real.

So until a official ics is released, we really won't know how far along this dev model was.
It was a user debug rom.

Right. I understand that; but, I don't think it should have been "news". I mean, I guess that's where a site like that gets it's new; so there's not much to say there. I guess.

I have been more persuaded into believing it was an actual build FROM Google. But more towards the side of (hoping) that's not very close to what it's going to be. As, it was leaked quite some time ago in the first place and who knows how old it was then.

I think this is news at least in the context of the Android world. We can be reasonably certain that this is close to what the next version of Android will look like, maybe not exactly. I think that's exciting and it's something I'm interested in knowing about.

Normally I'm a skeptic when it comes to Android rumors just because they never pan out. But this one feels like it's mostly true.

I guess I'm holding online Android rumor news at too high of a caliber, lol.

Either way where we stand now; and, my opinion:

It "looks" like it was a legit build judging what is construed through what appear to be credible persons over at XDA.. This, judging by the kernel that was apparently salvaged. However, nothing more is really known as the system was gone when they got their hands on it.

My opinion would be that it's an EARLY build of what could have been a first attempt that was scratched; or, not aesthetically completely there. I guess it could look VERY similar but more refined to that if that is indeed the a preceding build to final release.

My concern is that: with GB on the Nexus I feel like Google purposely did certain colors and a black status bar because of the OLED screen on the Nexus. And, if that's true: knowing it's going to be another OLED device: why would they put all that bright blue in there when it would clearly just eat the blue LEDs? That's just my speculation and it could be 100% false. But I feel as if they would be smart about that.

Yeah and that's of course a valid concern, one you won't be comfortable with until you have real phone in your hand.

The great part about these phones is that if you don't like ICS you have so many options.

You can always go back and wait until someone make a rom or tweak that gives you what you need. Or, you can do that yourself, if you want to.

:)

meaning a shaky video of poor quality isn't good enough to judge how those colors will pop on a Nexus S screen.

Got ya.

wow. you folks get all wound up about some thin blue stripes? really?

Did you happen to own an Epic with the same OLED screen with blue status bar icons? Stuck out like a soar thumb when reading test on a white background. Along with the entire status bar.

With the Nexus on GB: where the status bar is it's extremely blue since there is no color and the leds haven't worn with the rest of the screen.

So, yes. Blue icons would be bad.

Blue OLED has a half life of 60% less than LCD. And And the blue led compared to other colors is around 30% lower. Leaving stationary blue objects vulnerable to wearing out the leds in that area. Which is very annoying. So, an OS primarily of blue colors would be horrid on an OLED display. I've had the Nexus since launch and only a few months after I had started to notice this issue with the status bar.
