Nexus vs Droid Razr (Unbiased)

For me it was all about the signal. I went thru 4 Gnex and finally had to switch to the Maxx. I live in what Verizon considers a fringe area even for basic 3g coverage (no 4g in area) and the Nexus just could not keep a signal on a regular basis. I loved the phone and hated giving it up but it all boiled down to the fact that it wasn't doing me much good when I couldn't count on it to make and receive calls.
My advice is try the Nexus out first, if you are in a strong signal area IMHO the Nexus can't be beat. If it doesn't work out and you go with a Razr you'll still have a dam good phone.

I don't care what kind of phone you use, that's not how I judge someone's worth or intelligence. Sent using tapatalk 2.

You might be interested in reading about the potential screen defect in the Razr/Razr Maxx. It's said to be caused by the slim profile of the phone and the battery pushing expanding when heated and causing lcd cracks. It happened to my Razr Maxx.

Would that be covered by warranty or not?

My personal opinion is for the GNex. The main reason I wanted a Gnex was the ability to root/rom the device easily. I like to tinker so that made my decision fairly easy. I think the Razr is a nice phone, but as some have said it is somewhat awkward to hold due to its width and slim design. I haven't had any issues with my Gnex and its signal (other than in my office which no cell phone ever constructed will get signal in). That being said, there seem to be plenty of people that do. The 4.0.4 radios seem to help that a lot, which again is a root/rom thing to do. Like I said at the beginning the ability to tinker easily was the deciding factor with going with the Gnex, but if that isn't something you will be doing than a Razr should be more than adequate. IMO

It's not even close

The RAZR isn't even the top device in its own line

Funny how the Maxx is the number one seller on Verizon. And the normal Razr is number 2...

What the general public buys isn't necessarily right for the enthusiast crowd

There's no doubt Toyota sells more camrys but the BMW 7 series in my garage is the superior vehicle

I've owned both the Nexus and Razr Maxx. Can easily say the Maxx is the superior one. Better build quality it just feels more sturdy than my Nexus did. So what it doesn't have an hd screen, and it's still just as fast. Same processor and gpu just different clock speeds. You can't say that the Nexus is superior just because of the screen.

We can agree to disagree, respectfully.

You are not going to win this argument, not on AndroidCentral (see who they nominated as the best Android device you can buy as of July 2012) and certainly not among an enthusiast crowd

The screen is inferior on the MAXX (yes, I've owned the MAXX, the Nexus, and the S3 in the last 7 months)

The software experience is vastly inferior. Even the superior hardware of the S3 isn't as smooth (IMHO) as Jelly Bean running on my Nexus. Project Butter and Jelly Bean provide performance gains that completely outclasses the MAXX.

If you are talking about a phone that can be tweaked, that can take advantage of amazing software changes, that offers outstanding value at its current price, that offers unparalleled developer support, has the cleanest and most pleasing interface, it has to be the Nexus.

The signal issue was/is greatly overblown. I know 4 other people that all have GNex, and only one of them has a signal issue.

Now, as far as the better device, both phones are great. I own the GNex, and my wife owns the RAZR (not MAXX). I would recommend the GNex. Software updates are just as important, if not more important, when it comes to performance. GNex gets the updates faster and is guarunteed more updates than the RAZR. The RAZR just now got ICS, and who knows if it will ever get JB. Overall, the GNex has more staying power and will keep on trucking long after the RAZR is End of Life.

I will say a couple things about the RAZR though, the batterylife is around the same, if not a bit better than the GNex. The screen on the RAZR isn't very bad at all. At this point, Blur is hands down the best skin for Android. Lastly, Smartactions is one of the coolest built in features I've seen in an android skin.

Where is your proof that it is guaranteed more updates? And remember how long it took just to get the 4.0.4 update on the Nexus? People need to get over the whole nexus gets fastest updates thing. It obviously isn't true on Verizon. Maybe on gsm as they are already rolling out jelly bean. Who knows when the Verizon nexus will see it

hmmm... to feed the troll, or not?

I will admit, the Verizon Nexus does get updates slower than the gsm Nexus, and I'm sure Verizon is to blame for it. However, the Verizon GNex will still get JB and Google has a proven track record for giving their Nexus phones more updates than any other phone. So sure, there may not be a single post that I can point to where Google says it, but actions speak much louder than words.

Unless Google forces Moto to give the RAZR JB, it will more than likely never see it. Don't get me wrong, the RAZR is a solid phone and Motorola makes some of the best hardware and has solid design. I would be ecstatic to see Motorola make a Nexus and would get one immediately. However, software updates are too important for me to get anything other than a Nexus.

Either way, your opinion is quite biased towards then RAZR, I don't know why you are so unwilling to have a civil discussion beyond, "RAZR is awesome because I said so!"

Unlike the MAXX, we do not have to wait for updates, we can grab them the second they are available to the development community

Oh Jellybean was announced today? I had it flashed by the evening to my device

Your continual return to the Nexus forum (MAXX development community quiet huh? Ouch, low blow) already says infinitely more than your words could ever hope: you picked the wrong device

I don't miss my Nexus one bit. I know I didn't pick the wrong device. And you realize this is a RAZR vs nexus thread right?

Razr has better signal strength, also is set up for international travel .that's about it now they both claim to have same processors but there's a difference, the nexus is a TI omap 3360, the razr 3340 the nexus is a 1.5 ghz underclocked to a 1.2 the razr is a 1.0 ghz overclocked. which I to me the nexus will be able to run future roms and hold steady the razr wont be able to push that much more I'm sure the razr wont get jelly bean but the razr HD will.

Agreed, it really is the software that makes a difference (it is one thing to read about Jelly Bean, it's quite another to be able to see it in person on your own phone)

Now I did go back and re-read the OP's original post, if software is not a key criteria, I still do not think the Razr offers the best hardware package

For the best package of battery life, camera, audio quality, and signal quality, I think the Galaxy S3 takes the cake
