Dear Nexus4 user,

I recently got my nexus4 in Feb, and just wondering does anyone has the same issue ?
Before I start my story, just want briefly tell you guys the status of my nexus4 : I am waiting my " 4th " replacement of Nexus4 within 30 days!!! WTF ....:( Which I felt like is kind of silly, but....

Well.... anyway, Here is the story,
Everything begins with the rattle sound which I believe everyone knows this issue that nexus4 have. But it was my the first time to buy the google phone, so I called them for the explanation of this sound. It turned out they thought that was a quite issue and was not supposed to be there; therefore they decided to sent the replacement.
Anyway the rattle sound is not the point, The real point is when I got the first replacement I soon realized that unusual feature( two tiny bumps) on the body case and is right located above those two screws and here is the picture

So I called them again, they sent me 2nd replacement which I noticed that had exact same problem as the first replacement ,,, So I called them again, as expected the 3rd replacement also had the same issue..... So I am waiting for their respond for resolve this issue,

Well of course , the overall function is pretty nice, just the case defect is really bothering me.... I don' think I am too picky right ? or maybe a little bit,
but once you notice this issue is really hard to ignore the scratchy feel when holding the phone

So I am guessing either I am just toooooo LUCKY to get those defected Nexus4 or The quality control of the Whole Production Line has the problem ..
Which I don't know and neither does the Google support team !!

And I am also a little bit surprise that they told me I am the first one who encounter this issue...:O
Also, the funny thing is that they told me I could keep file the replacement as long as I have this problem and under the warranty

Can you guys check your Nexus 4 if you bought it within the end of Feb to March ?

You are just being picky. Maybe that's just the design of the phone. Many people don't have the tabs on their phone and I believe they might only be on the 8gb version or depends on where they were manufactured. You should be grateful actually to get the tabs as they will protect your glass back just a little bit more when placing it down and the sound should come out better from the speaker when you have it laid down as well.

If that's true, it's completely absurd that the CS people at google don't know this and will repeatedly rma a device for this! Good work!

I think cs has now just been trained to listen to anything you say, type it into a computer and finish with hmm I see what your problem is and how it might affect you.. and then get the RMA process underway

I find it surprising that the rma process is cheaper for them than providing competent tech support but I guess it's believable...

Actually two of the CS talk with their advisor right after I discuss with them and they didn't know that is the new design. So do you know where is the reference about this new design ?

There is nothing official other than people on the forums noticing the change on all new Nexus 4s. I believe this is so that when you put it down on a slippery surface it doesn't slide off. Frankly, I never checked to see whether my Nexus 4 came with those little nubs, because I put a case on it the moment I took it out of its box.

Just one question, why are you trying to RMA a perfectly good Nexus 4? This is going to be your fourth replacement for your Nexus 4. Why are you doing this?

Please enlighten me! I'm a bit confused as to what you are trying to accomplish here!

Maybe they added them to keep the glass from touching a surface? I'd read about people using their phones (playing games, downloading apps) and them getting hot, then they'd set them down on a cold surface and the glass would shatter. Maybe that's why they added the two bumps? Just a thought.

haha~ just felt not really comfortable when I holding it on my hand, I meant once I noticed the issue is really hard to ignore the scratchy touch feeling ..; and I just want to have a smooth surface of my phone....

Well.... if the surface is PERFECTLY flat .. that MIGHT work... and with two tiny nubs... hummm... I really doubt how much heat reduce or sound improvement can be achieve

Im sure its pretty clear though after all the replacements that its not a defect right? Im guessing the chances of two phones having the exact same defect/problem is high, let alone 3. Btw how do you hold your phone?

I think you will have to live with those little nubs on the back. The chance that you will get a replacement without those nubs is impossible at this point. My suggestion is that you get used to those nubs on the back.

Ok Guys. I decided to get the FULL Refund which is the best offer they could do in my case.
Right after I talked with the Floor Supervisor along with the Tech. Specialist whom claimed the two nubs are NOT defect but NOT Sure whether if it is the new design or not... XD , also another replacement will probably result the same...

Anyway... at least I got some solution. So I will go for it... maybe will wait for the new nexus X....;

I really think google and LG needs to update the information of the body change on the webpage... at least put some notification IF it really is the new minor design.

Anyway ..Thanks for you guys information and some funny pictures

Wait ... my Nexus 4 has a very slight little rattle inside when i shake it, presume it's a slightly loose part but not effecting anything. That's a defect? Someone please tell me so I can RMA my phone 4 times too. :D

Seriously, claiming that two tiny nubs of rubber that are clearly not a random defect (uncut trim) but there by intention is a "defect" on a $300 phone that is comparable to $600 phones is pretty anal retentive. Lighten up, if your phone works great, and has no clear damage to it, keep it. Don't drive our prices up by costing the manufacturer more.

I ordered a new Nexus 4 on 3-17-13. Got it two days later and it had the nubs. No way you can feel those when holding the phone!!! Mine had the rattle as well. Phone worked fine for two days then stopped recognizing the sim card. I tried two others SIM cards with no luck. I did a factory reset and that did not help. I finally put the phone into fastboot mode, did recovery and got the phone seeing the SIM card. All was great for two more days then it did it again. So I called Google and they sent another phone. The second phone would not see any of the SIM cards from the moment I took it out of the box. So Google refunded my money and I sent both phones back. The second phone was supposed to be brand new, but it did NOT have the new designed little nubs on the back.

Phil has posted on this, its the new shell update to prevent scratches on the back, it also makes the speaker louder when flat on the table.
