NFC wont work

On my Samsung Note 3 i could send movie files to my co workers no problem but on my S6 and even my LG G4 it would just keep saying "preparing to beam" on my phone and "incoming beam" on his phone (galaxy s6) until it cancels. I think his old phone was a note 3 as well i cant remember.

NFC is working fine if your phone gives you a pop up message.
All NFC is doing is telling the other device (and yours) to start another service to actually beam the info back and forth. This can be WiFi direct, Wifi, bluetooth. Problem is when you mix phone manufacturers LG may handle it differently then say Samsung or HTC. Then if you have a Samsung Note 3 it may be different then a Galaxy S6 because in the several years since the Note 3 the technology or protocols may have changed. So lots of variables there to overcome.
But the gist of it is if your NFC was not working then you would not get a message on your screen or the others phones screen.
