I keep checking for Software updates on my phone and it says I'm currently updated check again in 24 hours, but I'm on 4.4.2.

Could it be because I'm using the phone unlocked with a network unlock code on another carrier?

No, it's because AT&T hasn't released a 4.4.4 yet. (And, since you're not on AT&T, you wouldn't get it anyway. For updates, you're going to have to download the ROMS and flash them yourself. Your carrier won't send out updates for AT&T phones and AT&T won't update phones not on their network.) Locking has nothing to do with updating. (Rooting, OTOH, prevents it.)

My phone is stock on ATT and I'm having the same problem. I get the same thing on Kies.

I received the update a week ago and could not do it since I was rooted. I finally got around to getting the factory image and used Odin to put the factory NC2 on and I can't get the ota to come in either. I finally gave up and rooted my note again and did nj5 update using safestrap. There is a guide on XDA on how to do it.

I'm personally not interested in root. I've had to many problems in the past. However, if I did root I'd get a 5.0 ROM.

I got the update a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes setting the date up will help. If not, go to Best Buy to the Samsung Experience counter and ask them to flash the upgrade.

Att put a hold on the 4.4.4 update on hold nectar contacts were being deleted in the installation process they told me they are working on it as fast as possible but since it is Samsung and att working together on software who knows how slow they work on fixing the software

How about a chita on a treadmill trying to get half way across the world. The chita (being att) says it is going as fast as in can, but in reality is isn't going anywhere! Just running in the same place XD
