No access to BBC iPlayer?

I am in the UK and am having a puzzling problem with access to BBC iPlayer. I recently had to do a complete factory reset and then reinstalled all my apps. Now I cannot access the BBC iPlayer app from my tablet (a generic one running Android 6) although it was running perfectly before the reset. I can access it if I go through my Opera browser but not if I click directly onto the app icon. Whenever I try starting the app it shows a message: "No network connection - BBC iPlayer is currently unavailable". I have checked / done the following:

1. Cleared all caches for the app
2. I have uninstalled it and re-installed it to no avail
3. Checked my wifi connection but that is 100% fine and all other apps work on it.
4. Installed BBC media Player in case it needs that to run alongside iPlayer
5. Checked location services under settings.
6. I've run every cleanup type program I have

So, can anyone think of what I might do to use the app as the browser only gets me onto the website. As I said, it worked fine on this same tablet before I reset it.

Re: No access to BBC iPlayer

It may be that the current version of BBC iPlayer in the Play Store is no longer compatible with Marshmallow, and the version you had on the tablet before the reset was the last version that was still compatible.

I am not sure if you still have to install it but I always do and have no issue with using iPlayerScreenshot_20200603-140814_Google%20Play%20Store.jpegScreenshot_20200603-140800_Google%20Play%20Store.jpeg

Thanks everyone - I think I have solved this by a) updating BBC Media Player, b) unplugging my router, leaving it disconnected for 10 minutes, then booting up again. I also noticed I had two frequencies set on it so I disconnected the higher one.
I don't know what exactly fixed things but, hey, it's now working so thanxx for your input.

This should have had nothing to do with an app not working. In fact - in congested areas the 5 gHz WiFi is beneficial. I have both broadcasting at my place with no issues (but I'm not using that app). See if it will work with that turned back on.

Do you remember if both bands (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) had the same SSID? If so, that can sometimes cause confusion for a device.

Anyway, glad it's working now!
