No App Push Notifications

Hi All,
I am a long time iOS user that converted to Android (GS4 AT&T) about three weeks ago.
There is one thing that I have had trouble with from day one, I don't receive any app push notifications (CNN, Breaking News, weather) and my automatic podcast updates won't download. I do receive Gmail notifications and app update notifications but that is all (seems like only Google notifications).
I have checked that the push notifications are enabled in the apps but was wondering if there is something that is not turned on in phone settings?

You might want to check your sync settings

I checked my sync settings and they are all on, I did do a manual sync and it will sync without any problems but still no notifications.

Same here. It must be happening because apple servers are down... I've noticed this on whatsappMy mistake, to much work
