No app sideloading update for Atrix?

I was reading about AT&T updating older Android phones to accept sideloading for apps like the Infuse will have. But only the Captivate, Aria and Inspire were listed, has anyone heard about the Atrix getting this update at any time?

I wouldn't hold my breath, if I were you. Motorola is still busy trying to figure out how to patch their latest update, which broke several of the most popular online banking apps.

I'm sure they'll get to it, but I doubt that sideloading is high up on their priorities list, right now.

I hope sideloading becomes available soon this phone is so great it can only get better.Guys when an update comes if you're rooted will you have to un-root or will the update still come through and just break my root? Will it also break the webtop hack? just asking....

Not to muddy the waters too much, but I think from the looking I've done there are countless ways to sideload apps on the atrix still.

I think there are definitely higher priorities on motorola's list, but if you have an app that is a "must have" that you need to sideload I would contemplate one of the available options on the forums.

Yea I read and saw the script for the sideloading but it requires you to get sqlite3 if you're on wind!ohs!!
and it just annoying so I idnt bother with it im not that desperate.Webtop was mainly my most desired thing lol because I dont want to spend on a docking station or webtop even though they're neat but pricy.

Sk8trix can you play HD games over the webtop hack? I am thinking to do that mainly for gaming, how smooth is it? Is there any lag/problems? Thanks!

Gladenable requires sqllite? It ran for me without a hitch. Download the self-contained script and run.

I was rooted and got sideloading on day 1 when I got my atrix. I can't live without amazon appstore or my assorted apks in my dropbox.

I'm not sure haven't even tried yet.....well on the web top it displays your phone too so, I bet you can start a game from your phone that way and play it....but I haven't tried I'll check and post back if anything.
When you do the hack it makes your phone into a touch screen mouse and keyboard....unless you get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse it would prolly be better for gaming. Here's the link I used to do the hack works on .83 in case that's what you're on,but follow the instructions.

I'll give it a try. thanks for the info and link man you are the best!

If its that important then why not just enable it via hack. I did it in about 5 minutes after I got my phone.

I just cant believe they wouldnt put the Atrix as one of its first priorities. After all it won CES 2011 Best Smartphone.. You would think that it would be a top priority for AT&T updates. I understand that the other phones have been out longer so more people have the other phones so they roll those out first, but you have to also understand that Atrix owners bought their phones to have a top notch phone, and would expect AT&T to "reward" them by prioritizing them

Pardon me if this is a stupid question, but when I loaded the Gingerbreak apk file to root the phone, I used adb with the install command. Would this not work with *any* apk file you want to sideload? Or are folks wanting a "one click" interface to use in place of the adb command line?

well I just finished installing the wifi hack with adb and getting wifi tethering on my pc as well as mobile hotspot. Not sure if att will block me or try to change my plan but if they do I'm going back on the site changing it back to normal and calling them and giving them alot of s*it if they try to screw me over. Here is the link to this hack.Props go to this guy for having all this information for people to do their hacks.

Yes, in order to update you will need to SBF flash back to stock then update.

Probably. Thats essentially what the sideload wonder machine does. Just in a more friendly user interface.

I don't have my phone rooted and as of yet I really don't want to hack it being that I am a newb to Anroid and all of this stuff. I guess I will just wait and do without for now, just seeing if anyone heard about us getting the update in the future.

It is going to fall on the manufacturer of the device to include this in an update. Since HTC and Samsung are starting it, I would speculate that Motorola won't be far behind in getting this enabled.

Agreed, and as more manufacturers catch up to the specs on the Atrix this will increase in priority for Motorla. They will need to do things like this to maintain their competition in the droid market.
