AT&T Galaxy S8 No back button?

I've noticed that on my S8+, sometimes the left upper screen does not display a back button, nor does the right lower area, and does not function to go back. For example, this happens when I am on my native Samsung pictures app. The only way I can get out of the screen is to re-boot the phone.

Has anyone else experienced this, and what do you do?

I believe the phone os going into immersive mode in the situation you are describing. Swipe up from the bottom to show the navigation keys.

Yes, swipe up from the bottom and you will see your recent, home, and back buttons.
