W7 genuine and up to date
device name in Explorer : SGH-T889V (no drive letter!)
pictures path : Card\DCIM\Camera

W7 - Explorer is showing a squirrel like icon at the place of the pictures icon that were taken with the phone.

What do I have to do to see the pictures icon displayed ?

Sadly, your problem is one that Samsung originated and Windows exacerbated.
1) Samsung removed the "USB Mass Storage" mode from their phones, leaving your with only two options: Media Transfer Protocol or hooking up your device as a camera. This means your computer cannot see your phone as a generic 'thumb drive', just see it as a media device, and you need drivers for that or it won't work.
2) Windows seems to have issues with these connection modes and while it does let you transfer files, it won't show you the 'previews' of them, which is why your'e seeing the Windows' default icon for pictures (I suppose the squirrel pertains to your default app for opening pictures).

If you want to see the previews before transferring them to your computer, I'd suggest you use Kies Air (you'll have to be in the same WiFi as your computer for that to work). The interface for that, however, is slow sometimes, but the transfer is bearable and you get to see previews of all your files properly.
