Android Central Question
A few days ago, I switched from Google Fi to Ting to take advantage of the Verizon towers. When I received their SIM card I put it in my phone before it was ported over from Google Fi. At the time, I had service, then the phone autodialed *22899. I hung up on it twice. I found out later, this is a Verizon activation number. After hanging up those two times, I have had no service.
After initial troubleshooting with Ting, they decided to send me another SIM card. In the meantime, I switched back to Google Fi. Surprisingly I had no service with them either (used an ESIM). The new SIM with Ting also didn't work. Curiously, the phone said I did not have a SIM card, but was recognizing it because in the Mobile Service section it was saying Verizon and listing an APN. Also weird I cannot change Preferred Network Type, it is defaulted to Global and cannot change System Select, it is defaulted to Automatic. Below are the troubleshooting steps we did:
Reset network settings
Turned Airplane mode on and off
Re-activated line
Force Stopped carrier system apps
Tried to add or edit APN settings (didn't let me add and fields for current APN were greyed out)
Went into the Phone Information section and tried to turn on Radio Power (all other fields were greyed out, and Radio Power would toggle back off by itself)
Factory Reset Twice (once with backed up settings, once without)
After all this, Ting determined this was an issue with my phone, but this has never happened with me until I put in their SIM card. I tried Google Store support as well, however, they were not helpful at all. I am at my wits end here. I don't know what else to try or how to resolve this issue.
